need help quickly- I'm going to check my coil packs with a multi meter right now
Going out to check the packs on my 99. What should the meter be set to on the ohm selector? The meter has 200/2K/20K/and 2m. When in idle with the prongs are not toching anything- the display says 0L/ I am assuming this means infinate resistance right? Now on another thread it says to do this.
" I tested all good coil packs, including brand new one. There are 3 pins on the connector.{ IB-G- + } All good coil packs had infinite resistance between + and G. The bad coil pack jumped around from 15 to 28 M Ohms.
(Red lead on + and black lead on G from multimeter)
Okay- this is good, but which way shoule the pole be facing when you take out the pack? Is Youcan switch the orientation of which is the right and left. I know the ground is always in the middle- duh. I tested both ways, and the both came out to test to OL. So i guess the first one is okay? Can somebody make this simpler for me please? Thanks. And what about the rear ones?

Okay so i realized that they are printed. Im a dummy. Anyway, they all tested to OL. They did not even jump. I wanted to make sure that the meter was working okay so before I would test each one, I would tap the probes together and they would jump. So with the description of my test, do you guys think I did it corrrectly? The test deems all packs to be good with a reistance of "OL" Thanks guys

i just came online to post this very same thread and i was checking out what new and i came across this one, i have this same prob......
ok... i have an auto range multimeter but for some reason it dont give a display(cut off numbers)
i went out and bought me a another one....its not auto range and it has the same thing FormoAccordman own has...2000k/200k/20k/2000/200
i set it to 2000k and i do the test and when i am suppose to get infinity, i get 1, which is what it is always at when its touching nothing, when i reverse the wires like the 'How To' write up says its not wht i expect, when i touch the wire and take them off real fast i get a 1.44 or 1.6, and some where around that range, but when i touch them and hold them, it goes up to 2.39.....
