Installing KS (New Jersey)

Hey guys,
Im getting the ses light on right now, with the codes for knock sensor and evap. I"ve decided to go ahead and repalce the knock sensor, however my mehcanic is telling me he has to take out the intake manifolds and waht not is charging me a lot for the labor and 170 bucks for the sensor. I found one off of ebay for 64 shipped (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSA...spagenameZWDVW. Now my only problem is I need to find some local .org member who would be willing to change it for me. I know you can do it without taking the stuff out, so I was wondeirng if I did pay someone labor charges if they coudl switch it out for me. I dont mind paying the mechanic to fix up the evap problem...btw, I live in central jersey.

Thanks a lot guys.

*Also, pls. lemme know if the knock sensor is okay so i can order it?

Thanks again.

The KS code is frequently false. You should fix the evap code and reset the ECU. If it sets again, then change it. You can R&R it without pulling anything , but it's a challenge unless you have small hands.

I had the same problem but the knock sensor code is Not false. The code dissapeared after I replaced the KS, while the Evap code remained .... the evap and KS codes are not related.

Get the $64 sensor at ebay, they are ok. You can go to your mechanic and ask him for some tools and do it yourself at his parking lot (that's what I did).
It's gonna take you 40 min maximum (depends how good his tools are).
There is a writeup at motorvate.ca -> http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507

I got the KS from ebay and installed it yesterday. It took me no more than 15 minutes. You should be able to do it yourself just make sure you have someone with small hands with you. I got lucky and I was able to squeeze my hand in there but I got cut a few times. I used a 3/8" ratchet, 10" extension, 3/8" to 1/4" adapter, 1/4" swivel socket, and a 12mm 1/4" socket. It was easy to get it out but a little more difficult putting back in since I had to squeeze my hand in there. If you do it yourself you will save a lot of cash if your mechanic plans to remove the intake manifold to get to it.

not that hard but having the following will make it a lot easier.

long extension like this http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes

12mm swivel socket like this, not an adapter.

magnet pen, in case you drop the bolt or sensor in the valley.

You are probably going to have to stick your hand in the valley to start threading the bolt so bending the bracket for the green EGR sensor i had to unplug(you'll see it) helped me a lot and some hand salve will help.

it makes it alot easier fi you use u joints. I used a 12mm u joint with the bottom part of the joint the socket.

It made it much easier cause i could get a better angle at the sensor without the socket slipping off cause of the angle of the joint.

get a 12mm joint, and long exstention( unless you have a good amount of smaller ones, and a wrench and you should be able to get itno problem. make sure you do nto loose the bolt
