jk. i think i know what you talking about but i need more info.have you already removed your battery and battery plate. did you kit come with a template to cut the hole?

it sounds like your talking about the mid pipe and how it angles towards the battery when you put it on. your right it does unless you do one of two things. the alignment to the tb is alittle of cause the mid-pipe is straight. your coupling is gonna have to give you the buffer necessary to complete the install.

1. with the worm clamps in place and loosely installed over the tb, pull the mid-pipe/maf away from the battery. find a way to hold it there. if you already have the hole for the cai drilled do you filter and pipe install (have fun). once in place slide the coupling and worm clamps completely onto the filter pipe. cut the zip ties from the mid-pipe for movement. if you haven't put the MAF adapter on do it now. position the filter pipe flush with the maf adapter. slide the coupling and worm clamps on. tighten everything except the clamp at the tb. try to seat the coupling onto the tb as it may have moved & tighten that one last. your done!

or

2. use you stock piping from the tb to the maf. this way the piping to tb alignment is better and this set up seems to be providing more torque (something to do with volumetric efficiency).

I have a major lack of low end torque in the summer with my injen, mostly because it's horribly designed. In the last few months ive definitely noticed a huge increase in power due to the colder weather, however. I just bought a stock setup that I'll be putting on once the air warms up though, from what I remember when I had my stock intake the low end torque was amazing, most likely due to the snorkel which acts like a quasi ram-air setup sucking cold air from the gap between the hood and bumper.

Apparition, this is just out of curiousity..If you've ever followed the path of the snorkel stock intake, it has incredible bends and it varies pipe diameter. I do not have a CAI nor a Short Ram, but with the CAI, it's all smooth diameter in a pretty clear path. While we're on that topic, Do you think the CAI would work more effectively with a cone filter and the piping being pointed straight at the air source? I have no idea how the air could be filtered but it'd receive a more direct air source. Instead of sucking in most of the air, it'd already be present (say you're going 60 mph, after restrictions in front of the filter, you could have an automatic 50-60 mph air induction. In essence, air would be knocking on your engines door...right?

I have a Injen CAI installed on my 99 auto max and I like it, especially in cold weather. But my low-end sucks. The only reason that I got an injen is because its the only CAI that u don't have to make any holes for. If I could find another CAI that doesn't require me to cut or drill anything and is cheaper then Injen, I'd sell my Injen and buy the other one.

I've had both too and the only reason i liked the mid-pipe setup is because it made more noise. As far as driveability is concerned, i preferred the CAI setup. I use the past tense because it is not installed on my current max.

Wait, so do you think the reason my PRCAI appeared REALLY loud to me over the mid-pipe was because it's on the drivers side?.. Because to me the mid-pipe changed the sound by alot and seems quieter, I suppose maybe the noise is more spread out now..

You're thinking about a ram-air effect. With most cone filters, there is no filter media on the top of the cone, so placing the cone parallel with the flow of air would be the worst position to create any sort of ram-air effect.

Ironically enough i ran without my driver side foglight on my old car and the mid-pipe still seemed louder. Maybe my ears need to be recalibrated.

so i put my CAI on saturday and i'm pretty sure the car is slower... it takes a lot longer to get up in the rpms but its loud as crap... so eh, my air filter is from a turbo charged saab and its like 10 inches long and all that jazz so maybe there is too much air(also considering the code i have for fuel trim too lean ;p) for the fuel.

I'll try a smaller filter and see if that helps.
G-d that thing is loud.. lol it sounds friggin mean though.

fuel filter would be the first filter i'd be thinking about, but then again i don't have any Saab products on my ride...

im pretty damn sure there cant be "more" air than what the engine can take in....hence why they have turbo/superchargers......

dude, if your filter doesn't fit and/or is improperly seated then it's your filter, but you would've seen that issue coming during install. the only thing that a filter can do is restrict flow! performance filters "alone" reduce that amount of restriction, but they don't reduce it enough to cause a lean condition. if installed properly, the filter is not the issue. i don't care what size it is! if you don't have enough fuel, i would start by looking for leaks in the entire induction system (not the size of your filter) and change the weakest link in the fuel system (the fuel filter).

It does not matter what Forum I am on, Nasioc, Subie, numerous other Nissan forums, any honda forum, this topic is always beat to death, and it is basically the same for every vehicle.

SEARCH and quit wasting space with numerous post on this (already covered in the stickies) topic......

Forced Induction, Now there is a Intake worth discussing...

my fuel filter has about 7k on it and i use premium gas..
I had to leave the vacuum line for the valve cover off, so thats just open. and i had to plug the main vacuum line that came off of the intake that goes next to the TB. i also plugged the little one. the air goes straight from my K&N filter through the MAF and to the TB. other than the vacuum lines i cant think of anything that would be hurting me.
i was thinking about installing my stock intake and putting a K&N in there... it felt a lot better with the stock intake.. seriously

No, I have no vacuum lines.. And I have all the things listed in that link its just not working for me. Maybe the computer isn't realizing whats going on. I can tell I dont have any top end anymore. But the lower end feels weak too..

Ummm that means you're running so lean that the ECU can't compensate for it. Massive vacuum leak.

maybe that was cause i tried starting it with the main vacuum line unpluged.. i have a plug on it now and its running fine.

Again, scary posts.

What 'main line' is this? There are only 2 vac lines on the A32 intake tract.
