Optima red top problem

hey whats up I have a question and im hoping for any input or anything I bought an optima red top battery a little over two years ago and bought it because of the two year warranty and how good everyone else said it was and how reliable it was rumored to be. I just recently had to pull it out and bring it up to autozone to get a replacement. When I got there I thought it would be no problem to get a new one come back to my house and put it in. They said they didn't have enough time and would have to fully charge it and then run tests on it to evaluate what was wrong so finally this afternoon I was able to get my battery back and hopefully put it in tonight. Is this common with the optima batteries or did I just get a bad one. also has anyone else had a pain in the @** with autozone and battery replacemnt or any other warranties

Depends on the cause. If you have repeatedly let it die, the red top will fail. If you used it for normal use, then you prob got a bad one. Dont know about Autozone customer service.

I've had my red top for a little over two years and i ran a battery/starter test on it and it doesn't hold as high as voltage or amps as it should. I figure i had this coming since it was pushing lots of stereo equipment and it has died on me a few times. Don't think mine's still under warranty so it looks like i'll be looking at a new yellow top soon...

90k, 4yrs, still going. Haven't tested it or anything. Still starts strong, but then again, SoCal here never gets to freezing, and only a few days in a year we get 110+ deg. Left my lights on 2x requiring jump starts w/o incident. I've given probably 10 jump starts to other cars.

i just bought a used one off of a friend.. it was still under warranty so i was worried about it.. well i went to put it in and realized it didnt hold a charge barely.. so i took to batteries plus here in OK.. and they did a test and said that only one of the cells was working properly.. and that the other were repairable, just had a lot of sulfate buildup.. so they reconditioned it for me and now that thing works great.. they didnt even charge me for it.. but what he was telling me is that these things 'love' having a lot of amps being put to them regularly.. my cars alternator was putting out 14 volts and he said that was great for it.. but i was asking what could have caused this problem with it.. and he said that either the alt wasnt supplying enough power or it had sat there for a while before i bought it... so maybe check to see how much your alternator is putting out.. just IMO.. the guy was pretty knowledgeable.. plus he fixed my battery.. soo goodluck..

I think the warranty doesn't effect the autozone or any other dealer. they'll send it to the manufacturer and they'll get their replacement as you are getting yours... if i'm not mistaken.

My local Interstate dealer is a Optima dealer. I just replaced mine for the 3rd or 4th time. I bought my first red top in 2000 and have been replacing it under warranty ever since (mine has a sticker on the battery that says 3yr warranty) the last one lasted 28mths. Over time they seem to get weak and go dead if I let the car sit for 3-4 days. I had one that would not start on Monday morning unless I drove the car Sat and Sun over the weekend. The last one was great, worked perfect for 28mths then started starting weak and was dead one cold morning. I have only had one time when they gave me a hassel about replacing it, they gave me a loaner yellow top and kept my battery for a few days. When the battery died on them they gladly replaced it. I'll keep swapping them out as long as they stay under the warranty. The one in my Z32 lasted 4yrs and took a crap, it's been replaced with a Odyssey light weight battery.

Depends on the application. Do you NEED a deep cycle battery?
