Stop Leak???
Stop Leak???
Quick question...I'm getting this little slow dribble from my car's radiator system and upon further inspection it looks like it's coming from my water pump...it's nothing bad so i was wondering can i use on of those radiator stop leak things. Thanks ahead of time for your input.
kewl thanks...then does the waterpump have like a seal or something that i can change...cuz i know my waterpump still works..it just started leaking and my car has been parked ever since it happened.
I wouldn't recommend using stop leak, from my experience with it (and I'm not a mechanic, this is just my personal experience) I would only use it on a much older car, with a much heavier radiator such as on a old school 1970 - 1990 vehicle. As for the Max, there is a weep hole on the water pump that once it starts leaking I think it indicates imminent failure. It may last a day, week, month or longer but it's on the way out. I'm not certain if there are seals that can be changed out or not but IMO if you have to remove it you might as well replace it and be done with it. Provided you can afford it. Good luck.
I had the same problem on my old 95 max.. i just leak'd slowly after i'd turn it off..
I just add'd water every 4-5 days and i was good. i last me for about 2months then i sold it...
but whatever u do, Dont use that STOP leak crap!!!

If you read the directions on that stop leak you will see that its a PITA to use. You cant just dump it in and go. Not to mention that it will probably clog your heater core. and potentially cause other problems.
heynow- the motors has about 130k..the car has 170k
2da mizzax- the car has a new radiator..and cheap i am not
everyone else..thanks for the input..i have the original motor at home just lying around so it's just a matter of taking off the pump and switching it (that pump is good)

i recently had a scare with a coolant leak.... at first sight, it looked like it was leaking from the area around the water pump. got a bad scare when a mechanic told me close to a grand to change da water pump. said it was attached to the timing belt? and to change dat alone would be a headache. luckily mine was the just a rad leak... but... good luck to u when u do da switch
