Pretty sure alternator died...

I was driving to college, when my tach started going crazy, then only my bass was hitting(no vocals from my other amp)it wasnt on loud at all, then my radio turned on and off, and then i got a rough idle and then it stalled in the middle of the road. Whats weird is my battery still has 12v, and the only light that flsahed was my air bag light right before the car stalled. I just hope its onl the alternator.

If the alternator died, the car would have drained the battery also. If it still has 12V then there is something else going on.

uhm it tries to crank you hear the starter motor start to go(Very slow and weak) and then it just stops. But the lights on my dash are VERY DIMM i think that the batt is showing 12 volts, but once i try to crank(or leave it in the ON position)it it drops to about 5 v

THAT HAPPENS when my battery was damaged it did the same thing and when i tried to start it (the lights would go off and the starter would crank like 1 turn every 2 seconds) so if the battery is drained and the alt won't charge it change the battery start the car then disconect the battery it should turn off if its the alt

get a new battery, put it in. Start the car, rev the engine n record the voltage coming off the battery. It should automatically be 14 something volts once started and a lil more when u rev it. If it doesn't change its ur alternator. If not, it could just be an old battery. Also, alternator problem, Brake light and n battery light should come on when the car is started. Don't start the car for too long since if it is the alternator, it'll drain your new battery. Then u just have to go back to the store to get a new one n tell them this one is bad or something...-= )

You can also get a jump from someone to start the car. Then before it dies measure the voltage across the battery. It should be 14 volts or higher. If not you have a bad Alternator. If that's the case, get a genuine Nissan alt. There are many stories about bad rebuilt ones after a short period on the car.
