NOOBIES: "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread. Read FIRST post BEFORE posting!
Sorry man my camera really sucks, the chamber was actually ok on the read out, -.4 degrees. The toe was 1.72 degrees to the left off on the axle that was messed up. But anywho A. should i keep a close eye on this. i'm thinking yes. B. Could this cause that front wheel to lock up? C. I could not even guess how this could happen and is there a solution? new axle or maybe some bearings. when i was under it seemed like it could be pretty easily taken off other than packing some new bearings. the part of the axle that was different was the inner part, end that is connected to the transmission.
As for the brakes, they should not lock up because of an alignment problem. But if the brake pads have become oil soaked, they can lock up from this.
Close eye on...what? The alignment? As long as you don't hit something, mess with the steering/suspension, or a component doesn't wear out or fail, the alignment shouldn't change.
Or are you talking about the axle? You don't even know what's going on with it, you're thinking based on an assumption that came from seeing metal that wasn't dirty.
An axle that according to you 'moved' 1/4"? No, not really. The alleged outward movement would eventually cause it to freewheel separate from the trans, the opposite of your 'locking up' concern.
What are you talking about packing bearings? There's not a single bearing on this car, or most cars past the 80s that has bearings that need to be packed.
Again, the trans side of the axle will NOT be affected by an alignment. Everything is bolted solidly together, the only possible way for it to back off is a bearing coming apart, or the bolts backing out. Both would be quite obvious if you were looking at it.
Can you take a picture (something better than your previous pics of the alignment specs, it would be helpful to have at least two pixels) of this 'problem' of clean metal you're having?

Have you checked for power and ground at the DLC? Continuity from the DLC back to the ECU?
Can you pull the codes manually?
that last post was all over the place my bad fellas, got the front end aligned, and the guy raised the car up so i could look under it. When he did he pointed out to me that the passenger side axle inner boot was spitting a little grease out. From what i saw it was not a lot. like maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon.
i could see where the boot or axle had moved (somehow) about an quarter of an inch I'm going to my parents house and ill put a jack under it and take a picture of the movement and grease that has been slung. Keep in mind there was a minor front end collision on the driver side maybe this could have moved it.

i checked the power and ground and it was an open ground, now is working fine.
There are no spark plug wires. There is no distributor cap. There is no distributor.
Plugged on to each of the spark plugs is a "coil pack". It is an ignition coil that creates a spark for the spark plug that it is installed on, therefore you have 6 coil packs. The ECU determines when a coil pack needs to create a spark and sends it a signal to do so.

You don't have to, no. As long as you aren't holding a pressure washer directly on the coils, you're not going to have a problem with water intrusion.

I've been wanting to clean my bay so much dude, thanks man
EDIT:
Are there any hoses i should be careful for as well, i forgot to ask before i begin

What's up Org, noob here... I have a 96 Max 168k mi. (AT) that just recently started shutting off at a stop in (D). I've cleaned my maf, iacv, tb, egr tube, ks and used techron fsc about a month ago. Please help...
Will it die if you're idling in park then put it in gear, or only after you've been driving?
Any codes?
Now that I think about it...when hot, just suddenly die and no codes...

Have you tested the MAF? Did this problem just start occurring randomly, or was did it start after you started messing with all of the components you listed earlier?

Hey guys. I've got a 1998 Maxima SE A/T and I'm trying to solve a PO138 O2 code. The badge shows my car is a cali spec -- 12th character in the string right under the VIN is a V. The door sticker says 5/98. I just want to make sure I'm picking up the right part for the "P0138 O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)" code my scanner is giving me. I believe this is downstream on the "right" or rear side, post cat. Is the Bosch 13374 the sensor I want?

I have a 95 Max that seems to be accelerating rather slow recently my check engine light is on and i pulled the code its a upstream sensor before the cat is that the cause of the lost of acceleration bc i was thinking about changing the plugs too.

Then download a FSM an use it to diagnose the problem.

You want to tinker huh? Ok, go ahead and tinker with replacing the head gaskets, put her back together and fire her up
! Let me know when you start and give me the timeline you think you could have the project completed. Sound easy but let's say you have to do it while the engine is still in the car. It will be a fun project to tinker with and I'm not trying to be a smarta** either. U game?
4th gen factory alarm problem
I have a 99 max with the factory alarm and key fob. When the alarm goes off only the lights flash, but there is no noise. This doesn't bother me at all (actually kind of like it that way) but I think it's related to another issue: there is no door chime. For example, I leave my headlights on when I step out of the car and the car just lets me. There is no warning or anything.
The car has done this since I bought it. I think the previous owner did something, but I don't know what.

As for the warning chime, it may be unplugged. It is located next to the fuse block, on the backside of the plastic panel that runs across the bottom of the dash below the steering column.
Short of getting it refurbished at an electronic store...there not much u can do.
SEARCH the org for more help. THere are plenty of BOSE threads in the 4th gen section and in the audio forum.
Check for codes. Seems like your knock sensor is busted. Replacing that will restore lost power.
Do a tune up.
1.) looking for vacuum diagram, I have lots of the capped off. 2.) I have problem when it gets hot out I have to open the gas cap to relieve presser or it has problem starting and I'm looking for a permanent fix for this
Please PM me

Hey does anyone know a good garage in the North West area (preferably in Washington State) with experience in tuning the VQ30DE? I am basically a complete amateur when it comes to tuning cars and any advice would be helpful. The car has a JDM VQ30DE in it with a cold air intake and a new ECU. But I don't think it has had a tuneup since the new engine was put in. I am also somewhat unsure what the deal is with the tranny. It is the auto version but the guy I bought it from claimed he had a "short shift kit" on it. Is that possible on an auto tranny?
Last edited by MaxiNewb; Aug 7, 2011 at 03:14 AM.
No such thing as a sts for automatic...however transgo i believe does make a shift kit...seach the 4th gen forum for that as i dont have much experience on automatics because i have a 5 speed
