The placement is obviously important or elce its not going to fit corectly...its not the size im worried about its where the 3 inch hole goes...Thats the reason they have those templates.

Winter Tires

I also looked at the Hankook ones. They look great and are studdable. They were my first choice. I ended up going with a Pirreli Winter Carving as they rated very high and I got a steal of a price on them.

I have used Toyo Observe G02 for years. I was very happy with them. Used them playing around ice racing with my Chrysler Laser a couple of times when they were new.

I was surprised with the amount of good reviews on the Continental's during my research.

The Blizzak, not sure if it is still the case, but at one point the 'special' rubber was only half way through the thread depth. So one you wore the tire down, it was not so hot any more.

Misc Engine/Transmission Problems

My 97 GXE just hit 150k and it's developed a couple problems - I'm wondering if any of them are possibly related, and if anyone who is past 150k themselves had a similar experience.

I have engine codes P0150 (O2 sensor circuit, bank 2 sensor 1) and P0110 (Intake air temperature sensor) and the following problems:
- When I start the car, it idles at about 1.2-1.4k rpm instead of the normal ~700 (this goes away when I put it into gear)
- When I accelerate, something produces a low hum when the engine gets to exactly 2500rpm (especially in low gear) but goes away at about 2.6-2.7k
- Transmission jerks/slips sometimes, especially from 1st to 2nd (its an auto)

I just did another oil change and I had my mechanic add more transmission fluid, but nothing changed. I also replaced the battery back in October, which I'm thinking might have something to do with the idle. Also, I'm wondering if I should do something about the codes since from the code thread I understood that at least one of the problems is only related to emissions and not actual performance. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Measure the OD of the ‘tube’ where the filter would be and go on K&N's website and search for that size and you’ll be where you need to be.

ok again..measure it and cut the hole. Put the intake on as best you can (the long pipe won't fit right cause there is no hole but you basically need to put it on and draw the circle where the tube lines up.

OK I have a problem with my 1997 Maxima, and I was hoping someone may know whats wrong with it.

It won't start - sometimes - I don't believe its the starter because I just replaced that a few years back. Thinking it maybe the battery I replaced that, that wasn't it. The alternator was replaced more recently than the starter. The car will start after it has been sitting at least 2-4 hours from the time it was shut off. Sometimes on short trips to the store or the gas station it will start back up - but sounds like it may be struggling a bit. Also sometimes when it has been sitting about 2 hours and I try to start it, it will only start if I crank it really slowly from accessories to start. And that only works once!

There is also this problem with the heater, and I've taken it to several different places and they don't know whats wrong with it. They think I am nuts. And I am starting to think these two problems may have something to do with each other. Ok so the heater will only get hot when the car is sitting in one spot. Once I am in motion it starts to cool, and the gage gradually drops back down to below cold. I've asked them to replace the thermostat and flush the radiator, which they did but didn't remedy the problem.

Are these two seperate problems or can they be connected? Does anyone know whats wrong, because I miss my car! Please help me if you can!

Merry Christmas!

Did I buy the right Axle?

I have 95 Maxima SE (Leather,ABS,Sunroof,Bose). At last oil change I noticed that the CV boots are ripped on both front axles. After extensive reading on this forum, I decided to buy new Axles from Advanced Auto Parts. I noticed that the Limited Slip Differential is an option you have to choose buying a replacement axle. I found a site online that had me look up ID number and looking at a specific position you can tell if it has LSD or not. It appeared that my car does not have LSD. Today I removed both axles and saw that my Driver side (Left Axle) has something Like a big bump right in the middle of it. The replacement Axle does not. Can somebody please educate me on how to find out if my car has LSD or not?

Below is the picture of old and new axles:

http://members.***.net/m.kosover/leftaxle.jpg

Another question: when you replaced your axles, did you replace inner and outter seals? I am trying to figure out how to get the inner seals out. While driver side is accessable, the passenger side is nearly impossible to get at?! Is there a particular technique that works better for it?
The outter seals are inside the wheel hub. Advanced Auto sold me outter seals instead of inner. Should I replace those as well?

thanks in advance,
Max

that big bump is a dampener of sorts, i wouldn't worry about not having it.

usually when you replace an axle you are suppose to replace the seals in the transmission housing. you only really need to replace the wheel seals if you are putting in new bearings or they appear to be leaking.

the seals for the hub are the same inner and outer (ie interchangeable)

Electrical problem any Ideas????

On a 95 maxima the battery discharges if not cranked in a few days. The battery and alternator have been replaced. I cannot think what would cause this. Also chilton's does not have any info on this topic. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the picture has been posted numerous times, but one is in the cat, then one right after the manifolds in the y pipe where it is still vertical coming down from the manifolds.

i think its about time to change my fuel filter. i heard that you can use a 300zx filter. now is that the 300zx TT or just a plain 300zx? would i need to do any modding to fit the new larger fuel filter into my car?

It is a little bigger than ours, but it will fit fine. I cannot think right now on the filter itself. I would go with a regular 300zx. Not sure if there is even a difference in the tt versus the regular.

WHICH LOOKS BETTER?

Smoked taillights(white and red lightly smoked) or "redded out tails on a 96 maxima?

Black with black leather interior.

As it turns out the idiots at Advanced Auto Parts sold me the axle for Automatic transmission. It was pure luck that I figured it out after the fact. When I finally got the right part, it had the same bump in the middle of the axle. I still have no clue what it is, but one thing is certain. Left axle on 95 Maxima MT should have it.
thanks,
Max

it could be the window switch on that door. if that goes bad the lock wont operate either. check if the window works. if the window doesnt work either you will need to replace the switch

the door does open. and the window works fine. just that POWER lock. like when i control it wont work. i thought it was a fuse or electrical proble.

engine mounts (the tranny mount) or it could just be a failing transmission. anyway thats a pretty serious thing. i would get it checked out asap.

Possibly Exhaust Problem

First off, just wanted to say hey to everybody on here, Just getting into the Nissan scene from Honda. So anyway here's my question. Im thinking of buying a 1995 Maxima with 151,000. The interior and exterior are mint and beautiful. The Clutch is brand new and the car runs great........... Except the guy says theres a hole in the flex pipe and the car is just a little loud, not to bad at all, now when I was driving it the car seemed great except it felt ALMOST like it was misfiring. Now this is really only my second 6 cylinder and I know when a 4 cylinder is misfiring. It's not even that bad and I could just be worried over nothing, but could a hole in the flexpipe cause it to slightly vibrate like a misfire? Also I think a front motor mount is bad. Thanks Guys!

on the car you dont want say remote #1 on, follow the first part of the instructions of putting the key in and out, that will clear all remotes from that car. then just follow the instructions to re add the one you actually want (#2 per say) to use on that car.

So, where can I donate now to get forum search access? The links on the first post of this forums now go to another thread (issue with forum upgrade I guess?)

Also, using google search, I tried to find something about fixing the seatbelt tightening mechanism, but nothing came up? Is there a guide or some general knowledge for fixing a seatbelt that suddenly doesn't retract anymore ? Thanks

98 Maxima starting questions

I have a 98 Maxima with 123K on it. about a month or so ago it started doing the following:
when you first start it, would turn over fine and fire on the first or second revolution, but would stall after 2-4 seconds this will repeat 2-3 times before it will stay running. Most time you have to give it some gas to keep it running. after that it will start fine until it sets overnight or if it is cold and it sits for a couple of hours.
i suspect that there might be issues with the fuel system, but would welcome any help.
One last question, i'm getting alot of road noise from the car which seems to be originating from the rear wheel bearings. has anybody had this problem.

This is what I came up with:

0608 - Cylinder 1 misfire

0304 - Knock sensor

So...now I just need some advice on what to do. And for the knock sensor, does anyone know where I can get cheap sensors? Thanks
So the problem wasn't a bad coil or bad spark plugs but a dead fuel injector! All other injectors tested at 12 ohms while cylinder 1 injector didn't test at any ohms at all. Took apart the IM to get to it and it's removed, waiting on the part right now to get shipped in so I can install it. I took pictures as I did this job. Let me know if anyone needs them to help locate things because the pictures on the write-up are just terrible but text instructions are good!

Thanks maxima.org, couldn't have done this job without you all!

I have looked in the fourth gen for sale section for about two weeks now and there hasn't been anything listed there. there could be someone on this forum with what I'm looking for and would see this tread but it would be easier if I could list a wtb in the fs section but this is the only place I can post. so I posted here.
