I don't have keyless entry, (I had the dealer run the VIN) I am wanting to put keyless on it, but would like to get the security sys. working. Not sure if the sw. that controls the trunk light is the one the security sys. is using, or if there is another sw. somewhere. I don't have a hood sw, but I put a jumper on it, still don't get a solid light when locking the doors.

yea, it is a good deal, but look around for a while a number of people have picked up kits like that, and the quality is poor, and doesn't last long

What is a MEVI and what are the gains???
Also what is a y-pipe and b-pipe??? I mean I know what they are but what do they profit your ride???
a MEVI is a Middle Eastern Variable Intake.

Y pipe is the first exhaust pipe under the manifold, that the two o2 sensors sit in. The factory one has two catalytic converters, which are there to regulate emissions upon a cold start.
replacing it with an aftermarket one removes those two front cats, so the air is less restricted and the engine breaths better.
supposedly good for 10-20 hp.

It's nothing like VTEC, and has nothing to do with I/E valve timing. VTEC relies on cam profile, this is a simple, yet efficient intake manifold design which is referred to as dynamic supercharging. that.

It boosts power in the upper ranges (5500+) of the RPM band, up to and commonly 40whp (Dynojet) @ stock fuel cut (6500). MEVI has been seen to smooth out the choppy USDM, but also has been known to lose some midrange torque.

Sorry for changing the subject...but you sound very educated....how would I go about putting the 90mm TB from a VH45DE onto my 95 SE...is it even possible and what would i need post-op in way of adjusting the MAF and fuel pressure reg. ?

so i ordered the kit from ebay, hopefully its gud. but while i was checking for more damage like you said i noticed that my power steering pump was covered in some oil that didnt look like power steering, so what could it be? its also dripped on my cv axle boot and down some more to my control arm bushing which are now both up the creek to put nicely. i can send u a pic through email or my phone cause either i dont know how to post a pic or it wont let me.

look at the stickies in the audio/electronics section.
and read all the stickies in the 4th gen forum, you'll learn something.

the small plastic part towards the inside comes off. then it should unbolt. look in your owners manual, it should tell you how to do it.
on you can undo the splash shields and go at it from the back of the fog, which would probably be harder

if you go to a parts store, just ask, i think it is an H3

check out your rear valve cover. get some degreaser and clean the entire area, then drive and check again to see if you can see where it is coming from.

to post pics, host them on something like photobucket, then use the insert image button, and put the actual url of the image in.

i would just wait until you get the aftermarket keyless.

yea if you don't have keyless, your not going to have the module, so just jumpering the hood switch isn't going to do anything when you lock the doors with your key.

WTH would they put a security sys. on a car that needed the module, and not put keyless on it??? Makes no sense to me. The manual doesn't say anything about 1 being dependant of the other.

I have a 1998 Max with a 5 speed, no ABS or locking differential, I ripped the outer CV boot on the passengers side and I need some advice. Some people say that its better to install a new half axle from autozone or w/e , or should i just buy a new boot?

If its better to just get a new axle can i drive on the torn cv boot for a while and then just change the axle before it gets realy bad.?

1998 5 speed Need CV axle/ Lower Control Arm help...

Guys -- I am really hoping someone will be able to help me out... Alright, I live in Gainesville, Florida and I just bought a decent looking 1998 Maxima with 135000 miles on it. I need to get my CV axles changed as well as the lower control arms (bc the ball joints are just scary loose). I really want to do this myself, BUT I have never done anything nearly as complicated so I am afraid I'll mess up bad. Plus, i don't have an impact wrench or any specialized tools, but I'll be willing to buy an impact wrench if I know for sure that this job can be done. Is there anyone in the Gainesville area who would be willing to help me out on this job. Of course, I'll provide beer, dinner, and cash Please, let me know if you can help me out , or if you know where else I can post this question, so that someone might reply....

Thanks a bunch!!!

Maks, don't worry about driving this thing with bad CV axles. A friend of mine had an old Honda and she drove it with the axles "clicking" for at least a year. By the end they sounded reeeeal bad on the turns, but the thing kept moving... There isn't anything bad that can happen to the car from bad CV axles to the best of my knowledge. It's not like the wheel is going to fall of on the highway or something.

My advice -if you are hearing the clicking, you already need new axles (changing the boots wont do it), so you might as well milk the ones as much as you can. Get your money;s worth from them, and then eventually when you have the extra $400 for new axles do it then.

OK so i'm a noob and I do have a legitimate question.

I am planned on purchasing a 99 GLE auto (Driving my drift car every day with no A/C in New Orleans is killing me!) When looking up stats online I noticed the 5th gens have the same 3.0 VG but have 30+ more horsepower then the 4th gen VGs.

My question is what are the engine differences between the 4th gen and 5th gen VGs and what could I change to make a 4th gen VG as powerful as the 5th gen? ECU? Cams? Intake manifold? thanks!

Simple things like the Y Pipe and Intakes would be enough to make you as powerful as a 5th gen, all the other things you mentioned would be probably if you wanted to go above and beyond the 5th gen. Which...why not? If you have the money and wanna spend it on that, go for it, you'll love the way your maxima rides 8-)

I took the wheel off and took a look at the ripped boot. I found a really heavy duty trash bag, cut it up and then duct taped it around the boot, so it will not go anywhere and it will protect the axle. The axle does not click yet so i should be ok till the next inspection, but i got a year so its all good.

I dont mean aftermarket things (although I plan on getting an aftermarket intake). I mean if I swap a 5th gen ECU, intake mani.... etc will it boost the power to the 222 of a 5th gen or is its extra power there because of an internal engine difference?

yes you can drive around with a torn boot, you will just get grease all over your suspension.
at this point you could put a new boot on and regrease it.
once the axle starts clicking while turning, you'll need to get a whole new axle.

if you were going to be putting a new boot on for the first time, you'll probably spend about as much time as you would to just put a whole new axle in.

you don't technically need an impact gun, it can all be done with a breaker bar. i did it all with a breaker bar, minus getting the axle nuts off.

the ball joint press can be rented from auto zone. they also rent pickle forks, but i found a good 5lb hammer to work better.
