Chef -- please update us as you are able. I know a lot of people here are very interested in how this turns out, and the specific legalities, evidence, & arguments that lead to the final decision.

wow.

First mistake: Buying a 3rd party warranty
Second mistake: Letting them screw you

I hope you get it sorted. That is total BS.

I dropped a k/n into my Xterra, I keep the stock filter in the garage in case this happens...

was it possible for you to swap it out before the dealership saw it?

Pissed Me off It happened To me too when My Fuel reg bumped out back in the days. and they said its not a nissan authorized filter..

but what does the filter have anything to do with the fuel system..
i never tried it, but go to the Stillen websight. and it claims in nice bold letter. *does not void manufacturers warranty* as says on the box also... but i just gave up...... what can you do

I'm glad things are looking up from what they were, but why are you paying over 2 grand for a motor swap instead of doing it yourself/enlisting some local help and saving yourself almost $2000?

I wish I could...

1. I live in downtown Chicago.... street parking. No parking space, no driveway, no garage.

2. My dad specifically made it clear that it had to be done at a shop, with ASE certified mechanics, and no less than a 6 month warranty.

3. I've got friends that could do it, but they don't have CC machines.

4. My dad made the decision of where it was going to be done.

This shop, Honest Engine, is getting me a 98 motor, with 52K on it, a new 5th gen clutch/pp, and labor for under $3K. There's a 2 year, unlimited miles warranty on parts and labor. Anything goes wrong with the motor in the next 2 years, the company that sold the motor to the shop provides a new motor, and pays for labor. Doesn't cost me a penny. (Yes, I have it in writing.)

They said there's a minor delay with getting the motor, so it won't be done until monday, tuesday at the latest.

I also figure now is as good a time as any to install the headers I have for it, right?

yeah man do all the modifications now, ask that shop so you are allowed to do the changes and they should still give you that warranty.

If this K&N drop in filter truly voids warranty, then why does certain Nissan stealerships sell them in their parts dept. Your stealership is definitely a stealership. I would've towed the car to a stealership that sells it and they won't have an excuse.

Actually the dealer backed him and said that the filter didn't cause any damage, it's the third party warranty company that's denying the claim.

Updates? I would like to see where this goes.

I had a similar situation in an Accord. The warrenty people paid after they were served papers.
