+1 for the cheap insurance.The VQ. Plus I just really like the styling of the 4th gen. I really dont even care about not havingthe payments,hell I have payments on my wifes car(+plus crazy high insurance)but it just dont matter,I like the 4th gens.Plus I dont really care about selling the Max and getting what i put in to it,I'd rather keep her around till frame falls apart. I can honestly say I believe the 4th gen was the best $4,000 I ever spent on a car.

I've had my maxima for over 6 years now and I still love it. I bought it because it was a fast v6 5spd Japanese sedan with decent looks. Now I love mine because its individual looks nice and still pushes me back when I get on it. I have a lot of other cars now but when I drive the max I get a special feeling haha plus the car still gets looks and gets panties wet Not to mention through all my relationships with females my maxima is the only thing that has never left me assed out. Haha

Same here. I'm saving up for an E36 M3, or, if I happen to get a promotion, an E34 M5, or a US E39 M5. Aside from maintenance, every time I get an urge to add something to the Max, it goes into the Bimmer fund.

Mine is 12 years old and I plan on keeping it til it blows up which I'm sure it will. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it so why would I just get rid of it? I'm about to do a full DEK swap on it along with headers so there's another thing that will keep me satisfied for a long time...

I was close to trading my Maxima for, of all things, a Toyota Tacoma awhile back. Carrying 3 bikes and trying to haul big items every now and then in a Maxima just wasn't working. But I love my car too much. It looks perfect to me, drives great, is super reliable and gets good gas mileage (420 miles average per tank). I intend on driving it till it won't drive anymore, there are better things to pay for than a car payment imo.

yeah, for some reason, my car is getting me 25-28mpg regularly nowadays which makes me question why I'm doing an engine swap...

I've been debating this myself for a few months now. Whenever I feel like buying a new car, I do something to the Max and that keeps me going for a few months. I just spent a grand on drive belts and a new AC compressor, so that should keep me going for a while longer.

But the Legacy GT is knocking at the window.......

i've considered getting a 5th gen max (because the 6th gens are butt ugly), but why spend a bunch more money on a car that i'll just end up dumping even more money into? my car runs great at 170k miles, and i know it well enough that I can fix most things that go wrong. looks great, drives great, feels great, and it's paid for.

you guys forget 1 thing, you make payments all the time. when you mod it out every other month and spend 1,000+ on it and that adds up. hell, i could'a bought a new whip by now.

I dunno....if I dont mod my car this month a fat hairy tow truck driver isnt gonna come and take it. Thats a big difference for me between modding and having payments.

^^^ you're right the only difference is that u can put in that $1000 payment when ever you like, "NEW" car payments come every month and so does the full cov insurance payment. As far as performance you'll have more flexibility to choose as u please and not settle for the performance of the new car because of lack of funds. I'll stick to no payments and flexibility to perform mods, plus the car is sexy and simple at the same time.

I must admit its the underdog status. Nothing beats the look on peoples face when a 4dr family sedan blows the doors of there "sports car" It has potential to be a very good DD which also has some *****. Its very reliable, other then my tranny, the only thing ive done is regular maintenence.

On the topic of paint. Ill admit it, it is thin, but considering the mileage, im at about 190,000miles(305,000km), 9 canadian salted winters, it looks very good. Its all in the maintenence. My dad bought the car brand new, and it still looks almost as good. Other then the bumper which has suffered some parking lot scars from other drivers who cant judge the distance infront of them...

Also the fact that the car is cheap, parts are readily available, and styling. I love the styling of the 4G max. The VQ30 is also bulletproof too.

i worked in a nissan dealership for a year and noticed how much crap comes with these newer cars...

learned that older cars can have less bugs..

ps. like me...my car looks younger than it does.

I own quite a few cars...I keep my i30 because its the biggest sleeper I will ever own next to my '82 xj6 jag. The e30 and the '65 2+2 are both performance cars and everybody knows you've got something cooking under the hood. But the i30 is kind of peaceful looking and you expect to see a docile acceleration from a light. Instead you hear a growl and its gone....my kind of car. Though, if someone were to trade me for a GTO...i would gladly give it up (blood, sweat, mods, and all)

The good:
* no payments
* underdog status
* clean styling
* good cruiser
* bullit proof VQ
* lots of room

The Bad:
* lot of maintanence cause its gettin old
* paint has a lot of scratches & dings
* still too slow for my standards
* auto-tragic
* Chick Repelent magnet

was looking into wrx STi's, but still too much,
looking for an EVO 8...

VQ motor FTMFW!! Nissan reliability. Comfort. Toys. Aggressive, yet sleek. Still gets a lot of looks. For the close to $15G I have into it, I could have a newer car, but not with nearly the amount of toys/mods. ..and not as much fun as I've had doing them! Originality of doing the car how YOU want it. Underdog Sleeper Status.. another biggie. No car payments/money spent when *I* want to..

Everyones got their reasons, many are the same.. but the bottom line is: it's just a hot car for the $$!!

ahahahaha, its so true. Thats sig material.

Once I find another S14 or have the money for an 2000 S4, my maxima will be sold. Back when I still had all my mods my car was a lot of fun. Even now with ust coilovers and a sway bar its still fun, I love driving it but it just has one problem after another. I have always had problems with this car; my check engine light has been on for over a year now because I just dont care anymore. Once I fix something, another problem comes up...and I wont even start on all the issues I run into when I try and smog it. Im sure if I had a 4th gen that didnt have so many problems I would feel differently.

nothing at the moment...everything is a PITA now. Too much to be maintained and all the mods I wont to do require even more work to get them...right now I don't even know if I want to keep modding the car. Very upsetting right now.

All I keep reading is basically "no car payments" and love the styling. Been there, done that. Anyone got anything orginal?
Yeah, the styling is nice, but so are the 2 cars I mentioned in my orginal post. Subaru legacy and vw jetta wagon. Way nicer in my opinion and there wont be any "unplanned maintenance" for a long time. It should all be covered under warranty.

i would GLADLY hop into a platinum 07 max and give away my old beater max for free if i could. friggin car is a ******* money pit and a constant worry, as all older cars are. reliability wise, it aint bad, just wish it was cheaper to fix and i aint no ******* mechanic so i gotta pay these idiot techs in my area to fix it and pray they dont **** it up.

If you need to be talked into wanting to keep the car by others you should go ahead and sell it. Simple as that.

My 4th gen is more reliable than most new cars out on the road. I dunno what you guys are talkin bout. I'd rather fix a problem in 5 min then let the dealer have the car for 1-2 days. And if anything major happens, I save lots of time and money instead of letting the dealer have it.

i bought my car new out the show room... 10 years later and i have roughly 12400 miles on it. really gives me no problems at all(just basic maintenace),and its well maintained. no carpayments is a plus and the more i mod it the more i fall in love and snaps me out of bordom with it. i will run this max to the ground before i get something else. i have people tell me all the time the car looks better than there 2000+ model car. the only thing i regret bout my max is not getting a stick shift.

Nismology's correct if you wanna get a new car get it, it's your decision, most of us however perfer the no payment plan. Good luck on ur decision someone out there will get a reliable max- just remember BIGGGG CAR PAYMENTS.
