Late gear shifting problem - 95 GLE
Hello, new here
I have in my hands a 1996 Maxima GLE, which has some wierd transmission problem. The gear shifts later then it should. Like, I accelerate, then about two blocks later the gear shifts.
There is also a small thing I suspect that may cause this, but I am not sure. A mechanic has taken my transmission lines and disconnected then from the radiator. Instead, he has installed a small radiator and connected those transmission lines to that smaller radiator. No idea if this has any relation to my problem. If so, how much should a radiator cost me?
If not a radiator problem, why are my gears shifting late?
EDIT=more detail on the problem just added
[[[[[[[[[Is this related, in any way, to the ECM (Electronics Control Modules)? When my dad was changing the Auto Transmission control modules, there was a difference in shifting (lessened the problem).
Also, when my dad starts the air conditioning, the problem is also lessened.
Person at Murray's says sometimes that it could be a bad circuit board; they send improper messages to the transmission. (hence, when the AC starts, the problem is lessened---still not solved, but lessened)]]]]]]]]]
Thanks very much,
Nissan owner

The transmission was starting to slip which is a known issue on Maxima autos so the mechanic tossed an external cooler inline which allowed the transmission to last longer. Now it's worse and probably time for a repacement.
Keep the external cooler with the new transmission.

We can wait for other opions but I know what happened when my transmission went and I know the problems with autos in our cars. Look on eBay, local salvage yards and the 4th gen classifieds. You'll find a good deal.

I wasn't aware of this until I talked to my dad just now.
Thanks again.
