Towing

1996 Max with 135000 miles. Trying to move back to baltimore from florida (950 Miles). I'm going back for Marine Corps. training in Quanico. uHaul says i can tow 5x8 trailer, with their installed hitched.

Also, I want to sell the car probably in December.

Yes or No? Any suggestions

Auto or manual? How much does the trailer and all your stuff weigh?

1000-1500 lbs max on stock brakes IMO.

Nissan USA says 1000 lbs, but the overseas maximas/cefiro's say 1500/2000lbs(i forget which)

Weight

It is an automatic. One guy suggested a transmission cooler, an additional 100 bucks. Empty trailer weight 900 lbs., loaded probably 1200[max]. keeping in mind that i may have to still load stuff into the trunk and back seat.

im gonna kill the car aren't i.

thanks

Take out one quart of transmission fluid and replace it with lucas transmission that stuff is great. I have towed up to 3000 pounds with my old auto. I had lucas in it and i kept the o/d off and it never slipped. Just make sure your fluid is good i would suggest taking off your pan getting a new filter kit putting new fluid and some lucas in side and you will be fine. When you tow it take your time with and don't try to accelerate too fast because your transmission will hate you. I am pretty sure you will make it for sure 2000 pounds is light for these cars.

I towed an RX-7 which is about 3000lbs on my 5 speed once, but only about 4 or 5 miles . You should be fine towing 1200lbs.

I towed my 96 Max with my 99 Max without any tranny problems. Used it to pull a trailer when moving a couple times. And I would tow an 8' trailer with a ladder rack, ladders and occasionally thered be a roof top commercial AC unit on it. Eventually though my rear shocks did crap out on me. I guess its not so much "can the Max pull it?", but "can the shocks take the weight?".

Tranny coolers only go for 30-50 bucks, install takes less than an hour and can be done with simple hand tools.

your putting alot of stress on your engine towing things with a car and not a truck
