Help with CV Axel!!!!!
Help with CV Axel!!!!!
Alright, I got grease all over my chrome.
Ah, when I hit any lil bump in the road my front right tire area makes like a grinding / squeeking noise.
Raised my car, notice the CV boot is busted open and there is grease everywhere.
My buddy thought i might need a new Bearing aswell.
I FORSURE need a new CV axel. Where should I go to get these? Is there better ones? cheapers ones? or just Nissan ones????
My MAXIMA money pit.......

AZ/AA/O'Reilly's/whateverautopartsstore are usually around $60 + core. Or you could go to the dealer for $500... Raxles are what, $129?

This is a good summary!!!
if only one side is busted don't bother with the other. I personally say go with raxles, but the fact that the napa/autozone/etc is so cheap and has a lifetime warranty ( i think) it can't hurt. I went with autozone before on my 91 and had the axles didn't last very long, the boots were torn within months.
i replaced both sides because i am ballin like that. I looked at the driver side afterwords and there was "tearing" going down on the boot. So, I figured it was a matter of time...
either way 300 extra bucks to avoid the garage for an extra month.. lol

YES. You will get the wrong part.
from what i learnt (could be wrong)
I had to get a CV axel that met these requirements.
limited slip dif (you have this if you have the TCS (pretty sure of that answer) )
ABS= if you have ABS (I do)
AUTOMATIC (I also have auto)
you need to know the answer to those 3 questions before you order your parts.

Ruthless, there should be a core charge. You can go trade in your old axles and get a refund, in the end they should come out to about $60-$80 per axle.
Albo, you do not have a limited slip dif, Canadian 4th gens have it, but US 4th gens do not. The difference between an ABS and a non ABS axle is just a timing ring at the end. If you have ABS, you need an ABS axle, there is a timing ring on the end for the ABS sensor.. Also, all passenger side axles are the same, doesnt matter if its auto or not, driver side axles are different so make sure you get the right driver side axle that fits your trans.

Yea, I got the Core return $100 CAN per axel.
And i Do have a limit slip dif.... Hence.. Ruthless Canadian. You are very correct about the passenger side.
I now this might sound stupid. but whats the easiest way to know if a car has abs?...
im pretty sure i do . but want to make sure before i order all this stuff and not have to deal with all the returning dilema... and what not.

when you turn on your car does an ABS light come on?
Or just look in your engine bay near the brake master cylinder and see if there is the square ABS module there. Looks like a square silver block with hydrolic lines going to it.
