E Brake light???
E Brake light???
My emergency brake light is on and i don't know why, i floored my car about a month ago racing my gf's 06 mustang and all the sudden my ebrake light popped on, car is still running fine, has anyone still had this problem?
mine is on 24/7 also. mine started last winter after a wet day then a freezing night. i took the switch apart under the center console and that fixed it for like a day. back on now. still getting 28mpg so i dont think the brakes are dragging.
Yes our cars have 2 sensors attached to the brake system. The first one senses if your break fluid preasure is low and this can be due to either low fluid or a leak in the line which would result in low fluid levels and decreased fluid preasure. The second sensor is connected to the calipers. If the calipers are going past the safe point indicating that your pads are extremly low and need replacing, then your brake light will come on. This information is coming from the head service writer of Nissan of Mount Kisco NY. He is also a Maxima owner.

That indicator just squeals like/scrapes like sin whenever the pads are past the indicator. There is no electronic sensor there as many times I've replaced worn pads with no brake light whatsoever.I don't care if he created the Maxima from fresh rice, that's incorrect.
Mine is doing the exact same thing, however, Its true, the light goes on when brake fluid goes low, the fact the it came on when you floored it is the sensor thought it was low. it got tricked. If you slam on the brakes. it will make it thinks its full
now, the second issue that ended up occuring for me it the actuall ebrake sensor was loose and when I accelerate the sensor would trip. when i hit the brakes it turns off.
*i doubt thats your problem, just letting you know for a fix in a 1/1000 chance in this happening to both of us

Hey NmexMax, quit your ***** crying. I am just relaying what I was told. Take it or leave it !!!! By the way, have you ever rebuilt your master cyl. and checked to see if there are any sensors in there? Have you ever checked your brake fluid resevoir to see if there are any sensors in there? Well if not then shut the hell up! As an orger you should know that Nissan has put some useless stupid *hit in these cars. So don't be surprised if what this guy says might actually be true, unless you have personally taken apart your ENTIRE brake system and know for a fact that it is BS.
I never said there weren't any sensors in the MC. My point was and still is exactly what I quoted, so before you assume that I quoted your entire response, go back and see what I ACTUALLY quoted before calling me out.
That part being that there is a said sensor in the caliper area. There is not, aside from the one that I mentioned, but it is not an electronic sensor that would rely any type of data(v/resistance signal) to the dash/ECU in order to trip a dash light. It’s merely a mechanical indicator.

i had a similar problem but it had nothing to do with fluid.
it was some sort of electrical issue, the ebrake bay somehow wasnt touching something it was supposed to be touching, even though it was all the way down.
anyway it was a 10 minute fix.

So... what if the light is on and the pads are ok and the fluid is topped off? Mine suddenly came on yesterday just driving normal back home from class. I looked at the pads and the fluid, and both seem to be where they need to be. Any suggestions now? It is true that I slammed on the brakes in the morning on my way to class because of some old fart in front me tried causing an accident...
NmexMAX is correct, there is NO sensor of ANY kind on the calipers of a 4th gen Max. I don't know about the other generations.
There CAN be a wear INDICATOR on the pads themselves which causes the irritating squeel when the pads are starting to wear.

My brake light came on after a cold night outside of the garage. At first I thought it was the e-brake switch, but it turned out that the brake fluid was low. (It was still just above the "MIN" level though.) I took it to a shop to get my brakes looked at because I had not had them inspected in a while. They said the front pads were about gone.
My mechanic also said that typically you should not need to add brake fluid to your system (unless there is a leak of course). The light will come when your pads are worn enough to let the caliper piston extend far enough to lower the brake fluid level to the point of turning on the brake light. This was news to me as I had always been in the mind set of "topping" off fluids during routine maintenance. I like having this as a way to remind me to get the brakes checked if I fail to visually inspect them.

.....
on the low pads sensing sensor.
