Nothing too serious...

Just a couple of problems I have with my car which **** me off and seem to be tranny/driveline related.

If I accellerate hard the motor pulls hard but it feels like theres a slight slip happening. Basically its like a very fast pulsing - for example - a pulsing like you get when you hammer the brakes and the ABS kicks in, except when accelerating - but much milder of course. It's bizarre - but only mild.

The other thing is that if i'm on a slight steer to the right and accelerate just a little bit, or even at WOT I get another fast pulsing/shuddering thing happening - much the same as what I mentioned with the other problem. Related? I don't know. OD on or off doesnt seem to change it. Not sure exactly whats going on, and the mechanic and suspension specialist ive taken the car to cant find the problem.

Dude...nothing to do with the drive train. It's either a bad spark plug or a bad coil pack which is causing your engine to misfire. Do you have a CEL?

No CEL and the engine is fine. New sparkplugs, new coils, new oil, new fuel filter, runs totally fine. I can almost guarantee it is tranny/driveline related.

Maybe your TPS then? Sounds like something in the engine...cause mine used to do that too and it was coil pack for cyl. 6 and the TPS.

I checked the TPS. It seems to be registering fine. The emanage is seeing something like 3.86v at WOT and it seems to be consistent. I replaced the TB as well.

The thing I dont understand is why does the engine rev freely and idle smoothly.

It's only very slight, but i'm sure its the tranny slipping. What should a slipping torque converter feel like?

That I do not know. Oh well...I'm out of ideas. Maybe someone else can chime in. Good luck.

The torque converter is always slipping, it's never locked on hard acceleration (short of shift_fast). How are you sure it's a driveline issue? It could very well be a slight miss, but not 'important' enough for the CEL to be set/flashed (IIRC, there are multiple classes of misfires for the A32 ECU, only those that risk damage to the cat cause the CEL to flash).

It's a possibility that it's a misfire only under heavy load (such as my car's doing right now, only a thousand times worse than yours).

A trans with slipping clutches/bands will almost always start off as flaring during shifts, it doesn't start off like a 5MT with a slipping clutch (accelerate and engine speed increases out of proportion with vehicle speed).

It seems you're there to answer almost all of my questions, so thank you pmohr.

Another thing I noticed is it tends to ping around 2000rpm - but only very lightly and only when its hot. I used only 98 octane (highest we have available here) and to stop the pinging, I used the emanage to dump more fuel in and it seems to have cleared the problem up.

The funny thing is, i'm pretty sure the stock ECU maps are designed to run too rich anyway, so it beats me why its not getting enough fuel. I originally thought it might have been the MEVI, as the maxima ecu is designed for air/fuel ratios that are designed for the USIM - but now im beginning to think otherwise.

Could it be a stuffed injector? I have a set of 555cc deastchwerk injectors just sitting around doing nothing. I was going to put them in when I did the supercharger - but dont want to put it in until all these issues are cleared up. If I just put those injectors in now would it matter - or would I have to lean it way out?

Cheers
