Im very upset tonight because i raced my 96 maxima and lost to a 99 camry....so this is how it happened i am running my stock maxima with just an exhaust on it....and he is running a bone stock camry..both are automagic....so we get on the highway and both pull up next to each other (not at a light) he counts to 3 and then we take off...i dont know what happened we were head to head and then all the sudden he starts pulling up alittle bit and he was about a tire ahead of me....i was thinking that it maybe because that i was looking over when he said 3 to see what he was doing and then by the time he hit the pedal i had a delayed reaction..i have to do something to beat him...i know my max should be able to smoke him...

RE: How???

I've performed the same race with my Maxima and I was ahead of him by about 1 car the whole time...I don't know what you did...was your parking brake on or something ?

If you are under WOT having O/D on or off will make no difference. At WOT the engine shifts very high(about 6200-6300 rpms) O/D would not have made any difference.

Don't be surprised...

after all, both are ~200hp 3.0 V6 family sedans...it should be a tight race. anyways.

Sounds like its just because he got a jump on you. The little delay you were talkin about is probably what caused you to lose. Because without the delay instead of being even with him for most of the race you would have been that little bit ahead instead of behind. Take Care

did you remove the spare tire from your trunk?? also, you can reduce your car's weight racing with only 1/4 tank of gas. last, check your tire pressure and make sure they're nice and firm. and when racing turn off unnecessary accessories (AC, stereo, etc.)!

I used to rock a V6 92 camry, and that thing could move. It also had a power button I used when I would seldomly race. It caused the car to shift at 1000 rpms higher than normal. Lets just hope u lost to v6 and not a 4 cylinder

the Camry V6 autos, Accord V6 autos are all pretty evenly matched with the Max auto... it happens... the only reason i bought a max over the accord or a Grand Prix GTP was the 5spd... thats makes the difference
