Howdy. I'm new to the forum and a new max owner. 98 SE automatic. I read a post from a guy who evidently has a GXE and says he's limited to 115mph and they suggested trying to change his ECU to one from an SE model. I know I did read test figures from a long term car&driver test on a 96 (i think) SE 5 spd and top speed was listed as 140. I assumed my auto might manage 130-135. Just an assumption. am i wrong and what's up with the speed limiter. I don't know much, help me out.

Yeah I have a 96 SE and it is in no way limited. An accord found that out the hard way this morning. About 110-120 I was pulling away from him.

: )

Good luck with your new Max!

i read that in an auto you disable something and you can reach up to 150 mph and the top speed for a 5sp was around 142

the GXE's were limited to 115 because they only came w/ 'S' rated tires.

No 4th gen SE's have limiters. The only time there is a question is if you have a GXE. Then the only way to know for sure is to go out and try it.

My max is 96SE w/ 5-speed.
If my brain serves me correct the top speed of 96SE 5-speed would be 145 according to the motor trend's test back in 96.
My top speed was 125mph and I had to slow it down because of the cops but the max was still pulling super hard.. go figure.
