bulbs behind the needle

Are there any lights directly behind the needles of the 96 max? I know there are 5 lights behind the dash. I am getting the reverse indiglos, and I have a GLE, they have the white needles, i wanted to make the needles a different color. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I think indiglo makes a specific needle kit for our cars. I don't know how it goes in but I think j_bryan has some red ones in his car. Good luck w/ your search.

I think you can color the back of the needles with a Sharpie marker.

Yeah, Ravq brings up a good point. Since you will have to remove your needles to install the indiglo's you can paint the back side of the needle where the light enters it. I wouldn't use a sharpie though, (they fade) I would by glass stain from a craft store. It's really cheap - under $2.00 usually and you wont need much. Post a pic if you can when you're done.

Yeah, the indiglos that I am getting say that I do not need to remove the needles. So I didn't want to remove them and paint them. Any other suggestions? I will probably Paint the tips on them if I cant come up with anything else.

there are indiglo kits (gauge faces and bulbs) and indiglo needle kits. i have the latter. to install the indiglo needles kit (which are basically just LEDs that go under the needles), the needles must be removed from the gauge cluster .

attached is a pic of what the needles look like--they come in 3 colors i think, green, red and blue. i have the blue kit. the picture is the blue led kit.

j_bryan, that looks sweet!!!

Let me get this straight, you are still using the stock needles, just changed the bulbs? Anything else you had to do?

How much did it cost you? and where could I get a hold of one?

Thanks

thanks. i think they look cool too. technically they are not needles. the kit contains LEDs that illuminate the stock needles. the catch is you cannot have the orange needles--the kit will not work with the orange needles. so if you really like them and have an SE max like me with the white face gauges you can get the kit from the site clee mentioned. the kit isn't that expensive, but it's challenging to install (have to remove the stock needles to get the LEDs in place). i let the guys from import intelligence wire it up--I sent them my gauge cluster. they wired the kit to my cluster and shipped it back to me. i re-installed the gauge cluster and wired it to a 12v source.

You sent your whole cluster to them? How long was the turnaround time? And how much was it to install? Do your needles stick like the people who did it themselves?

This is pretty good info for people who want to order the needles but are afraid of messing up/sticky needles.

j_bryan, when you're done answering clee130, I've got a few more to add:

How much did it cost you, part & labor? Why didn't you do it yourself?

I've got a 95 Max, so my needles are not orange ... so if the kit has LEDs that illuminate the stock needles, I'll still keep my stock needles right?

Domo arigato!

You sent your whole cluster to them? Yes

How long was the turnaround time? Depends. They can do the install and ship it out the same day they receive the kit from you. Since i tried to do the install myself initially, i screwed my cluster up--sticky needles, etc., etc. just like others on this thread. I bought a used cluster for ~$110 and sent that to import intelligence along with my kit. while my new kit was intransit, i drove around with my busted gauges

And how much was it to install? They charged me about 26 bucks to wire up the kit; 7 bucks to ship it back to me.

Do your needles stick like the people who did it themselves?
Not at ALL! when i sent them my kit to imp. intell. to do the install they did quality work. since removing the needles is a delicate operation, i recommend leaving it to the pros--check w/ import intell. they may have a warranty on their product as well.

when i first got the kit and did the install i was ****ed; the directions were not very detailed. my needles didn't stick, but I couldn't seem to recalibrate the needles properly--my tachometer idled at 3000 RPM, speedometer was off, fuel was off, but the temp gauge fine only because i couldn't remove it lol!!. people who got in my car laughed at me... infact, one of my needles fell off while i was racing at maxus !! funny but true!!
