Slight Shaking/rumbling randomly at idle
#41
If the shaking/ rumbling only occurrs while in D then why was he testing the coils? A blown coil will cause a misfire in any gear. After flushing the transmission fluid yesterday I re-installed a defective coil I had on the shelve. It misfired and shook the engine in every gear.
If the shaking only occurrs in D then clean the intake:

He's describing it as quite rough. I think it may be more than the O2 sensor.
This may seem to be a little left field, but I throw in fuel treatment every 1000 miles and most of my vibration that was quite obnoxious after I first got the maxima is gone.
However, reading it likely is your coils =(

FINALYYYYY..i have been experiencing shaking problem for a while when in gear D....got it fixed and wanted to post what i did...but it sounds weird to me that this would be the problem...i first switch my coil pack 2 and 6 ...that gave a rougherrr skaking...i then said lets pull ALL the plug out see whats going on...i found the coil 4 when i took it out the end rubber part go stuck inside the cylinder...I WAS LIKE DAMNNNNN...but i ended up pulling it would with some lonngg nose pillers...i then switched pack 4(ripped one) and 2...NO MORE SHAKING...car runs soooo smooth....i attached the coil pic where i was ripped....i couldnt just believe that this caused a problem...i still wonder were the coils mixed up when my mechanic was changing the spark plugs or was it the ripped rubber on the coil the caused this problem all this time?

WOW. I have the EXACT same symptoms people have posted. Car sometimes gets in this 'mood' where it idles rough for a little bit. You can feel it in neutral and it's a little worse in drive.
Also, my car has lost a LOT of power. We're talking 11 or 12 second 0-60mph times with a TOP SPEED of like 90ish, won't go any faster no matter what. Incredibly sluggish.
It's a '99 I30 cali spec.

I know the gasket around the cyl.2 fuel injector is leaky and makes a whistle.
I know I have a decent exhaust leak somewhere between the manifold and the cat.
I know I have a nice neat little ring of carbon around my TB plate.
I know the only code I found was p1440 for an evap leak.
I have a new knock sensor, which is a PITA for the cali spec, where the swirl control valve actuator blocks access and requires the UIM to come off.
So I have also heard the '99 coilpacks suck. Do I need to start testing coils individually or could one of the above problems cause these exact same symptoms? Any advice here would be great, thanks.
