Megan catback for a '97---- Extra Sensor pipe?!?
Hey guys, just a quick question, I've looked but there's no info on this and I'm confused.
I want to buy the Megan cat-back from eBay since my mid-pipe is rotted out. Here's two listings:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan...spagenameZWD1V
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan...spagenameZWD1V
The first one says the 95-96 models need the extra sensor pipe, the second says it's the 97-99 models that need it. There's no part number in the first listing and the Megan website lists two different part numbers, one for 95-96 models, one for 97-99. Anyone know?

I got a 97 Max with Megan cat-back. I did not need the extra pipe, Im pretty sure thats for 95-96, anyways you can check on your car yourself. Its just a little almost s shaped pipe right after you cat, see if its got a sensor in it or not. Its actually a really nice sounding exhaust.

What you have to do is crawl under your car and look immediatley past the cat. If there is a S shaped pipe there, thats the sensor pipe. If that is there you can get the 97-99 catback. If it is not you will either need one or have to find out more about the 95-96 catback. Because when I bought my catback they didn't have the 95-96 model available. So call or email Megan Racing and find out from them about the 95-96 model.

Mine sat fine. I removed the muffler though and went back to stock since I got tired of the noise. Eitherway the fitment is fine for me. Just make sure you get the right size midpipe based on if you have the sensor pipe or not.

i bought one couple months ago along with a warspeed y+hi-flow cat... mine did come with a o2 bung in the pipe it self so i didnt have to worry about it... since that cat didnt come with the bung in it so it worked out great for me... i have seen alot of people *****about that megan catback exhaust but imo it is a little ricey in low rpms but it sounds pretty good if ur cruising @ 45 + mph...

i dont know about ricey but ppl tell me when i step on it my cai sounds like a subaru. but mine has a deep tone to it and when i down shift it almost sounds like a muscle but cleaner.
im happy with it just wish it didnt look so ricey.

i have a megan cat-back on my 99 SE max. i like it, it doesnt bother me. but when i got mine done i did it when i went to autoshop class when i was senior in HS and put it on and found out that there was a big gap between the stock y-pipe and the highflow cat i bought along with the cat back. so i drove to midas with a loud *** non cat system which hurt my ears and had them cut part of the resonator pipe off bolt it to the highflow cat and bolt the cat to the stock y-pipe and weld a aluminum pipe that replace the gap for oh i would say $82 including tax. but if u want to avoid this problem, i emailed a megan racing associate and he gave me a part number to go to nissan and have them order it and put it on. im not quite sure if u have to weld it on or it is bolt on but yea. im stickin to wut i got for now

there's info on it, you just didn't look hard enough brosef.
Here's a post I made about it a while back.
the exhaust is actually very high quality... i'd put the welds on my old megan racing catback on my previous maxima up against those on any other exhaust on the market.
the exhaust is quite loud without the supplied silencer installed (when I installed the silencer, I could never get it to not rattle at certain RPMs, so I didn't keep it in there). It is loud and throaty at WOT, the thing I hated was off throttle... if you were coasting down with your car in gear, or if you let off the gas and put the car in neutral, you would get that annoying ricey "buzz" as the RPM came down. that was my biggest complaint about it.
also keep in mind the exhaust (at least back 2.5 years ago when I was the first one on the org to purchase one) is made for a 97-99 maxima which has a shorter b-pipe than a 95-96 max does. if you have a 95-96 max, you'll need to have a small 6" custom pipe made to mate the megan B-pipe to your stock cat or to your test pipe - or you'll need to have a custom testpipe made that is about 6" longer than your catalytic converter is.

I got a 98 with the megan catback and it came with the sensor pipe which I needed. But if worst comes to worst you can use your old pipe, the stock b pipe has it also. Just email the seller and tell him you have a 97 and ask to make sure if it comes with the o2 sensor pipe. Its a lil pipe that goes between the cat and the b pipe
