Help with codes..
I got codes
0104-VSS
0304-Knock sensor
I have been having problems with my speedometer for a while where it would cut on after i have been driving for a while and then randomly it would just stop working and go back to 0. So do you think that is something to do with the wiring and if so how do you get to that wiring?
and the knock sensor is it a DIY job? or should you go to a mechanic. Some people i have read about on this issue drive around with their Knock sensor bad for months and it doesnt hurt anything? please explain someone

Driving with a bad knock sensor will not hurt anything as long as you don't use crap gas. You can replace it yourself. Go buy a swiveling 12mm socket and a 14" extension and set aside an hour.

The VSS code is for the Vehicle Speed Sensor and by changing that, your speedo will be fixed. Change the Knock Sensor as well, and use 91+ if you want to keep the code away. It may seem more expensive to pay $4-5 everytime you fill up, but it beats dealing with retarded timing from a KS code IMO.

It's obvious that Nissan put the O2 sensors so it can monitor the flow of the air and fuel mixture. If it has a bad grade of gas than it's going to retard and when it retards there are so many chances of the pistons mis firing and hitting the valves than your engine will be damaged. I am assuming this the way it works.

O2 sensors are for keeping the engine running ~stoich in closed loop, not for detecting knock.
The knock sensor retards the timing when it detects knock, not just when you have bad gas.
Pistons don't misfire
Without the timing chain breaking or skipping teeth, your pistons will never contact anything they're not supposed to, including the valves.

I don't know how many of you know this but just about any code that comes on can trip the "Knock Sensor" code with it.
I see it daily and the last 5 years have replaced 2 "Knock Sensors" for being faulty.
That's with an average of 600-900 Nissans coming through my shop on a monthly basis.

I heard that before
but I think that most people who dont know about these (and all ) cars in general use 87 and thats what trips the KS code, since its a ghost code they dont know about it until their o2 goes or whatever else causes the code and when they go to the mech they realize their KS code is also tripped.
Since you see so many nissans, is there a pattern to what codes cause the KS to come up with it ?
Do you replace the KS if it is not faulty and the code just came up due to something else? (lol)

yea but see i already knew my VSS was going bad becuase my speedo hasnt been working right since i bought the car about a year ago. so i guess the KS code triggered the SES light. becuase i bet if i did a diagnostic i would've gotten the VSS code since about a year ago

i did my KS last summer, I noticed more pull right after switching it(which is not too easy to do) And lately with high price in gas ive been using the cheap stuff for almost a year, and the code has not come back.

Everybody else wants to talk about the KS, so I'll talk about the speedo.
I had the same problem. I replaced the VSS on the tranny (which didn't help), and pulled the instrument cluster and tightened the screws on the back a couple of times. That worked for a little while, but the problem came back. I finally had to replace the cluster. I got a used cluster from someone on the forum (forget who), and it's been fine since. Fortunately the mileage was close enough to mine that I didn't bother fiddling with adjusting it.
There are a number of threads that essentially say the same thing--test/replace the VSS, tighten screws, and if that doesn't work you need a new speedo head (or cluster).

Cliffs:
Process of elimination re: VSS/Speedometer issues
Steps should be performed in this order, if step does not alleviate the problem, proceed to next sequential step.
1.) Replace VSS
2.) Tighten screws on gauge cluster (re: speedometer), carefully.
3.) Get a new gauge cluster.
