You say you have owned this car for 121k miles (not sure for how long), but you have never changed the coolant or transmission fluid. Is that correct? If so, why not? These two maintenance items are critical. The radiator coolant should be replaced every 30,000 miles or 3 years, perhaps longer if you are using long-life coolant. My car is a 5-speed. I am assuming yours is an automatic. From the little I know about automatic transmissions, you should be draining the fluid every 30k and flushing it every 60k.

190K miles. I am 2nd owner had since 69K miles. Most reliable car I've ever owned.
Engine and trans appear strong and run smooth. Never changed coolant or trans oil.

Done:
Starter Twice
Knock Sensor
Rear left Caliper
Front caliper brackets
Exhaust from rear up to cat
Battery
tires twice, brakes several times. Actually, I think only discs once.
Clutch master cyliner
Lower clutch hose
Freed up stuck solenoid twice on rear charcol canister(some emissions thing, forgto name)
Pioneer premier stereo and pioneer speakers all around (original radio stopped playing cassete adapters and cd player got error a lot)
Just did the belt after 180K miles. Good thing too. was ready to go. All dried and missing pieces.
Refilled A/C twice

Needs:
Clutch bad, finally slipping after 180k miles
Front Axles (clicking for the last 30k miles or more)
The check engine light to go off!! lol
Front ABS sensor bad so no ABS, and that thing ain't comin out
Frame rotted under radiator where engine cross member bolts to.
Plastic around shifter all cracked up

@Bobo,
Thats right, 121k miles. All me. Owned since Sept. 2003. so..7.5 yrs.
Never did coolant. Never had a problem. Never overheated or got anywhere close to it.
Trans. Fluid...did you read my post? 97... 5 spd....did you miss the part where it says..needs CLUTCH...
Yea, so I never did the ATF. bad idea here...
Since I just dropped the trans to do the clutch..the GEAR oil is getting replaced now.
Since you mentioned it though, I will check the coolant and probably replace it now. I've just gone throught the maintenance section the FSM, so I will check everything out.

oh. and to add the list of items done:

Pass side. Strut Mount. (top)

96 Auto silver

I'm the 3rd owner got it at 141xxx and its now at 225xxx.

I didn't do the oil for a year, but now do it every 3k miles.

Need to change air filter, and I've done breaks, rotors, axels, and purchased the car lowered with a sound system already in it for 1500.

Just bought my parents 1996 Nissan Maxima off them for 500 dollars. This will be my first vehicle I have ever owned. It has 204k miles on it, and as far as I know, my parents took **** care of it and now I am hoping I can utilize this forum and keep my car running for a few more years

95 GLE Daily Driver

Bought at 102K in 2009, just hit 140K last week.
Did an alignment, needed front axles, rear pads, rear window regulators, and I repaired the clock and Bose unit (display didn't work) when I bought it. Blew both front speakers and right rear speaker couple weeks after I bought it so I replaced those. Noticed my intake resonator was torn on the bottom part of the MAF side, so I replaced it a couple months ago. Other than that, no problems at all.

Did plugs at around 110K. Replaced trans fluid and filter, brake fluid, coolant, radiator plug (I broke it), and hood dampers last week. My MIL came on a few weeks ago, got an EVAP code but haven't looked into it yet.

363,092K at this very moment. Third owner, purchased at 288 K miles. I've driven from Texas to DC for Maxus 09 and I've driven back and forth from Texas to SoCal she's been from San diego to Times Square on the same motor and Tranny.
Current issues dry starts, Lucas helps aleviate some of the pain. And right now my idle, why in the world is the outside temp affecting my idle by as much as 400 revs.

Sorry gentlemen, you are both incorrect.

It should read: "who got" if using a specified time period or past tense, "who has" if used in present tense. "Who has the highest mileage; any issues?"

who's = who is =/ who has

96 SE Purchased 4 Weeks Ago

I just picked up a 96 SE 5-Speed from my cousin who bought it in 1998.

It had 44,000 miles in 1998! Originally purchased in New York, my cousin bought it in Texas. I'm thinking the first owner did nothing by highway.

Anyway, It's now got 159,000 miles, and I believe the only engine/transmission work that's been done is the clutch being changed 2x before I got it. Once in 99, once in '10. Since acquiring it, I've changed the rear pads, rotors and calipers (totally frozen), the rear struts, downstream O2 sensor, and sparks. Runs great! The struts were actually both completely blown. Pulled the springs off them and the piston just fell right in.

Has anyone done an LED mod on the Instrument Cluster of a 96 SE? Everyone seems to have red needles, but mine are clear with black edges.

If you wanna cut down the miles i have a good tip, do what i do. Tell all you friends your car broke down and you need a ride to work...now do that for 3 years straight. If there dumb enough they'll drive you everyday.

i bought my 96 with 184,xxx 2/11 now im at 193,xxx + it was down for 3 weeks
in this short time i have done routine maint. alternator, valve cover gasket, purge valve, ks, intake manifold gasket, tps,tb, and a few other sensors i cant remember at the time and it needs struts and c/v's but soon i will like brand new when im done

Have you tried taking a saturday to trace the source of NORMAL spark voltage with an automotive electrician's multimeter (like from the battery and the ECU all the way to the individual plugs)?
