My high mileage testimony:
I bought my 97 SE MT with 160k miles 2 summers ago. Wouldn't win a beauty contest by a long shot, but it was really strong. I bought it from the original owner and the paperwork showed that nothing aside from brakes and regular oil changes had been done. Its now sitting at 210k miles and even despite being used as a tutor car for 3 teens, original engine and tranny are still strong. I still win my fair share of stoplight championships.
Someone backed into it the other day and with my preliminary guesstimation, I see it being totaled. Will wait and see, but might be time to let go of old faithful
As an aside, while shopping around for cars, I talked to someone who had just sold his dad's 97 i30 with 587,000 miles. The drivetrain was original and it was on its 2nd set or rear tires(the original nissan ones having been changed at 2xx,xxx miles) The buyer turned the key, busted a U-turn and blew along the road at say 80mph, came back and paid 800 bucks for it.

Maybe a list of my issues might be helpful as well.
regular oil, brakes & tires
CEL for O2 and knock sensors
Cylinder 3 is constantly randomly misfiring, I keep coils in stock
New starter, still has a few almost-starts all yr round
New exhaust from the cat-back
New shocks and struts at 180,000
New hose to clutch slave cylinder at 190,000
Replaced pass e-brake cable that had been pinched and rusted thru
can never seem to get the front well aligned
Fog lights cracking or somehow accumulating water - lost count

96 with 150,000k Control Arms , balljoints, bushings , KS , central silencer , muffler , 4 struts all needed boots , battery , starter , alternator (x2) , right cv axle , rack and pinion boot luckily wasting leaking.
Problems now : evap cansiter , purge valve , 02 sensor.
I noticed once I put 245/45/17's on the car I destroy most of my suspension and it needed replacement shortly after , now it just needs some camper bolts.

Just picked up a 98 SE with 297K on it. Original engine and trans. Only thing really done to it over past 3 years was brakes, starter, coilpack, and catback and thats about it. Clean good running car though. I think its held up good with its mileage. Only thing it really needs is valve cover gaskets.

Just passed 238K. Third or fourth owner; we bought at 133K for daughter. Totally stock. Over the years have replaced axles, radiator, clutch, struts, rear calipers over and above regular maintenance items. About to do driver's side control arm/ball joint and axle (2nd time for DS axle - got NAPA instead of Advance this time). Still runs like a scalded dog when I test drive it. Excellent vehicle.

189,xxx. Only owner since 9/1997. Still runs like a champ.
Similar issue as with most 4th gens (rack & pinion, rad support and x-member).
Once it warms up will take care of exhaust leak, axles (drop) and then 3.5 swap. :-D
Good to see 4th's still running strong.

1996 2ed engine orig trans 363000 and counting. I drive it every day at least 100 miles per day minimum. Sometimes up to 125 miles per day. This is by far the most reliably car maybe ever and is bulletproof tough and mine is plenty quick and embarrasses on the regular.)))>

For example; I smoked a guy in a new 13' altima with ease. And the other day I completely embarrassed some kid in his super charger cobalt, and I was bearly gettin in it and I could here his **** winding out as I pulled away with ease at about 3/4 throttle.

I have 96 SE. Bought it with 52,000 miles...now I have 267,000. Original engine and tranny. I just cleaned the IACV, replaced pcv valve, replaced ERG valve and knock sensor, was getting code. Spark plugs was changed once in the 14 years that I had the ride. Gonna change them next week.
i think the car was built to last forever!! But the japanese didn't know it.
Oh...I replaced the O-ring on the camshaft sensor

Maxima 97 se automatic original engine and tranny, original sensors and original water pump and timing chain. It has 294,625 miles and just passed smog today. Still runs like brand new. The best way to keep it running good is to keep up with maintenance and use the best oil which I use is castrol edge titanium 5w-30 which fully synthetic and use valvoline dex/merc max life transmission oil and use only 91 octane gas.

Hi
214, 000 miles.
Still using the original radiator fluid. - wait no, I think we replaced a water pump, I don't remember at my age.
Original power steering belt as I can't figure out how to get it off.
missing tensioner for drive belt
oil leaking on exhaust somewhere.
power steering rack seeping
Bose radio goes full blast and I can't lower the volume
broken windshield
rips in vinyl on armrest and seat
plastic mouldings on dash coming off
small dents
in need of paint correction
Does not like to start without giving it gas
hood lift pistons weak.
Does get good fuel economy (29-31 mpg at 5000 -6000 feet)

225,000. But, she still runs great. No other noise from the engine other than normal noise. Body is ok. I'm pleased. I've had people ask why I don't buy a new car. That's easy, I love my max. Repair wise:
Clutch master and slave cylinder
Starter
Front axles
Rear shocks
Rebuilt 5sp trans
Two coil packs
MAF meter
Exhaust from cat back
O2 sensors (all four)
Clean EGR tubes
Valve cover gaskets
Left front lower control arm
HMSL assy
And obviously wear and tear items
Still needs:
Radiator Support (have the part, just need the time)

264,000 miles,
Still runs like a banshee, no smoke, no issues at all. Runs like its got another 200k left in her. Just sold it tho, cops repo'd my plates and impounded it, 76 in a 55 mph zone. F that!... so I sold it right from the impound and went out and got a 95 (other was a 96) and the 95 i have now has 166K and runs great. Love these V6's and the automatic/od.
Left is the previous 96, right is the new 95

1996 white pearl 120k miles blk leather no rips, runs great =) but has airbag light on, i remember my friend who was putting my passenger seat all the way back with power seat and all the way down and my guess was that he stretched the airbag wire and that probably caused my airbag light to turn on, before that it wasn't on.
i only had my car for a year(bought in october 2012) and only fixed/added...

Darkest Legal tint windows- (April 2013) Looks soooo nice bought most expensive tint at the store with LIFETIME warranty i still have the paper for free tint if it fades in the next couple years!!! especially with the chrome and arctic white pearl (sexy as hell!!)
(December 2012) Replaced head unit with single din aftermarket unit since original bose screen was not showing up,
soon to replace the speakers because i do hear a "Static noise" from the speakers i think, it is kinda annoying and i think they're a blown out or about to. I can still hear good from it but i have to go to volume 20 or somthing to hear.
Most of the time i keep the speakers off (volume at 0) so i dont hear the static and put my ipod on max volume and it works just fine right now.
**repairs* sort of cosmetic no under the hood repairs
Repaired rear driver side window regulator (as i was driving the window just fell down, but didnt lose the window, could not put it back up and had to get a window regulator since that window is the only one that did not work (cost me $220 to get regulator :| ) , after that i got the Window tint .. $460 around there for both window tint and regulator, O_o)
both front tires brand new, 50k mile warranty
one day my driver side mirror fell off while driving cause the sticky part was falling off (good 17 years lasting on that mirror) and replaced it for 10 bucks, not the whole thing just the mirror. gotta keep my car lookin original and good shape.
new car battery, it once died in December and bought terminal for positive side, had it tightned was good for a while, then in September it was really on the edge, died overnight, died the day before that, went to go check for a battery test, and they say" yeah the battery just needs a charge, just on its way to dieing" battery did look kinda oldish. so i bought a really good battery so i didn't have to deal with it again for a couple years.

Does anyone know which gas stations in the states sell 91 octane gas? All I see is 87, 89, and 93.
#519
I think it depends on what state you live in. I'm in Arizona and 91 is the standard premium. Shell, Fry's, Quik Trip, Quik Mart, Valero, Circle K. Then there's one place that sells like 100 octane racing fuel but it's not your standard place. Think it has to do with state emission policies blah blah blah. But pretty nice for you to have 93!
