97 SE cluster swap?

Hey guys, I picked up a very nice SE cluster for $17 today, and I want to swap it in. Two things though,

Will my speed read correctly? (I read somewhere that the faces had different numbers?)

And this new cluster is 23K over my mileage(117K vs 94K). Is there anything I can do to make them match? Can I swap odometers?

I searched and picked up a lot of 3rd and 5th gen stuff, no definite 4th gen. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I would prefer not to remove the needles. Did it last time for LEDs and regretted it...

you can spaw odometers. you can also open it up and adjust it (if you know what you are doing). the speed should read fine. people claim removing and replacing the needles can cause false readings but again if you know what you are doing, that shouldnt be an issue.

Ive tried removing and redoing the needles...with the multiple ways to do it. Didnt work. Was a major PITA.

I dont mind swapping odometers or adjusting it, but how?

Thanks for the help on the speedo.

What did you do? Turn back the odo or actually remove the needles?

if they are both the same color, open the housing up and take out the speedo. If they are not the same color, you will have to take off the speedo needle and change the color. you cant physically turn the odo back in reverse. a bit mroe complicated than that.

Going from black to white faces. Keeping needles in new cluster.

Well, there has been a lot of talk but no definite answer on the odo. Can the dealer do it if I show them mine in my car?

95-97 = same

I know you can send a voltage to the speedo and the mileage should go up but that might take a LONG time to get back to under 100k

Thought so, thanks for the confirmation.

I thought about that, and tried it. There are 4 pins that look like they go into the motor/gearbox. Any more info to help? What pins? And what voltage? (I tried 9v battery). Thanks Kev.

98SEBlackMax did this:

This is how I calibrated the gauges, using a power supply and function generator. By running it for several weeks non-stop at a high "speed" this added the mileage to the gauges. Taking it from 68,074 miles to 165,944 miles.

Did you lower the steering wheel all the way? Some people have had to remove the steering column trim, I never have with careful maneuvering.

There are two (or four, can't remember) retention clips in the lower part of the trim piece, by the dimmer, security light, etc. Just yank on it, it'll come out.
