Ticking noise
#42
I have the exact same ticking noise on my '99. I was worried until I started listening to the noise of other 4th gens, and realized they ALL make that noise, every single one. That's just how our cars sound. If you don't like it, get an intake to drown it out.

I had the same ticking noise as the video near the top. First check to see if you injectors are within factory spec's. then get seafoam(not the deep creep) and put little less than quarter of can in car through the intake method. then dump the rest( about 10oz) in to the gas tank when gas tank guage reads half full. Shake car side-to-side and bounce up and down to mix this with the fuel. then start car and go for a short drive, just enough to get gas with seafoam mixture into the engine. when you come back see if noise is still present. mine was gone

Not to veer a little off topic, but I thought it was a solid shim/bucket setup? At least that's what I gleaned from all the reading the past week(s). The shims are used to set the proper clearance and it's all solid so the only reason for "adjustment" would be shim wear. This would require replacement of the worn shim(s) to reset the clearance to proper. Nissan basically has an array of various thickness shims to properly set this. <snip>

Here is the problem that sucks. From what i hear the updated tensioner will reguire changing the chain guides and this is not an easy fix. Nissan no longer sells the 95-96 version. All u can try to do is find another used tensioner or try to fix urs. Do a SEARCH, someone jus replace the tensioner for a 95 and thats what he reported back.
