1st off u need to deside how much you want to lower your car. spring kits lower your car 1.5-2 inches and are not adjustable. they will feel more comfortable( compared to coilovers) because the spring isnt as small and stiff so it can reduce the bumps better. DO NOT just buy a lowering spring and put it on ur stock shock. stock shocks are not designed to work with stiffer spring and most ppl have problems within the 1st 6 months. also your stock strut being 10 years old will be pretty worn already. If you want a realy agressive drop (2-5 inches) you will need coilovers. the main barnds are tein, k sport, and dc ( i think, itsbeen a while since i bought my setup) they each have their own benefits but k sport is the only one with camber adjustetment built in( no need to buy an aftermaket kit. Remember that having coilovers will be a very harsh ride and you should probably think about the area you drive because every bump will feel alot worse on coilovers.

there is more info in the stickies im pretty sure and expect to pay 800-1500 for coilovers and about 400-600 for spring strut combo

yes, i have k sports for the summer. they are actualy going on in 2 days again( winter sucks) but after this year im going to prbably trade them for spring strut comb because the ride is realy bad. but it handles better and looks so much sexier with a 4 inch drop.

for a nice drop and comfortable ride go the ghetto route and cut your springs. seriously, if youre not looking for any performance gains then this is the cheapest way to drop the car and the ride will be close to stock

As far as I know you just take the old springs out, cut them, and put them back in... just make sure you cut em all by the same amount lol

My Tein Basics actually ride much nicer then my previous Spring/shock setup.
AGX's and Illuminas have damper adjustments, so the firmness of the ride can be adjusted.

The Ride will be horrible with cut springs.

With Ground Control you can specify the spring rates when you order them.

If your looking for a good coilover set up i would go with the Ksport Coilover kit...yeah its a little pricey but i personally love the adjustability factor that they have you can fine tune it to your driving needs and wants..with the coilovers dont go the cheap way out because you will spend more money replacing damaged parts. i personally ride on the Kspors..it has a nice solid feel on the road.

yes you can change the spring rate. you can also do this with k sport. but if i rode on any softer springs i would bottom out after every bump. when u ride that close to the ground u deffinatley dont want soft springs

just throw some dee's on that *****. that will get rid of ur wheel gap

^^ Ksport suck big time. I bought a set to only have them on for no more than 3 months. If you have cold a$$ winters be ready to have a winter setup because more than likely they will not make it through the entire season. K Sport = FTL

i am going to reiterate the quality of the teins... i bought them in 05 and they have been on my car ever since, been through 3 massachusetts winters and taken the beating of boston roads, and they STILL drive like the day i bought them... best investment i made for my car, HANDS DOWN!

I don't know why adjustability is such a big selling feature for people. Most coilover users get them for looks. Most of them likely do not know how to properly adjust the dampening settings anyway and even if they did few would adjust the settings other than the initial fine tuning.

I would just get a simple system that only has height adjustment. Progress, Tein or GC w/ the modified Koni's are more than enough for 98% of Maxima owners.

I ended up getting a set of Eibach lowering springs that can be adjusted from stock to 3 inches. This way I can raise it back to normal in the winter and lower it in the summer. Connecticut sucks in the winter time.

Sounds like you went with Ground Controls then. What struts are you going to pair them up with?

I got D2's.. gonna be the 4th summer I have them..
no issues here... I take them off for winter( stock set up in winter)..
every spring, I give them a nice cleaning before re-installing them..

D2's offer the same dampening adjustment ( 36 way) as the K-sports and have camber plates built on so you can adjust your camber in the front..

I've read a lot of people have had issues with D2's/K-sports, but personnaly, I haven't and I run with a 3-4" drop...

I would either get spring/strut combo or Coilovers.. don't waste your money on coil over Kits...

i have kyb gr2 which is more of a oem replacment but they work great. The springs I have though have to be lowered manualy they arent the style where you have a control inside of your car. SO once a year I just have to go out jack it up and screw it up in the winter and down in the summer.

So you do have Ground Controls. I dont see how the GR2's last with those unless you dont go too low with them. I wouldnt even expect them to last on a 2" drop.
BTW, the only suspension that would allow to to raise and lower inside the car would be an air or hydro setup.

You guys should join NYCMaximas (if you're local I guess) and read the sticky/thread that K3Y typed on showing pro's and con's of like 10 different kits.

Front is higher after lowering

Question:
I bought the lowering springs and had them installed...I have a 98 Max, I didn't replace the shocks, because I didn't know any better, I noticed the back sits lower than the front. Will new shocks solve this? And if I replace the rear shocks, do the fronts need to be replaced as well? they seem to be holding up better than the rear.

No, replacing the shocks isnt going to change the ride height.
What springs did you get? Some springs are known to have saggy rears.
BTW, yes you should replace all four shocks/struts.

What springs would you recommend for an even drop?

It all depends on how low you wish to go really.
In reality, if your going to go with new springs and new struts you may want to consider the coilovers.
If I knew then what I know now I wouldve done that setup to begin with.

I only lowered it 1 inch, thats low enough for me on the roads around here.

I was also told that over time it would settle and possibley even out, that doesn't make sence to me. Anybody know different?
