Flashing airbag light on 99

So i have a 99 and i bought it a while back and it gave me no trouble. Then one day the airbag light just went off. And its been doing it ever since then. Its driven me nuts. I have spent plenty of hard earned dollars and had the left & the right hand airbag modules replaced. it did the trick for roughly 2 days and the light went on again! So i was extremely pissed off after spending several hundred dollars for a 2 day fix that accomplished nothing in the short run. So i tried the reset method and it did not work. I tried unplugging the yellow connectors on the seats on both seats and then re-connected them while doing the reset method. Still no luck. I even d/c both the yellow connectors from the seats and turned the car to "ON" and got the same flashing sequence. Shouldnt the airbag light be solid if the side airbags are completely d/c? But i remember one day where the lights did not flash at all for 1 day, this has never happened before. I figured it was because the seats were moved! So lately i have been moving around the seats and still no luck.

What do i do now? I have tried almost everything! Are my regular airbags going to deploy in a crash?

After the new modules were installed i got a steady blinking sequence of on/off evrey .5 seconds!

(video taken a while back before both modules were replaced and nothing was tinkered with, note the pulses of the flash, long + short)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...23678153&hl=en

Is there a way i can check my airbag connections using the ohm feature on my multimeter?

Thanks again, i have been asking alot of questions lately! But they have all been reasonable and i have gotten great suggestions to all my other problems so far!

I have a 98 and the first time I got the lamp was when the car was 4 y.o. It was fixed by the dealership under the powertrain warranty (5/60). But the next time it happened out of warranty, so I've been dealing with it for 5 1/2 years. I cringe when I go to inspection because if it flashes, I'm out $800+.

My lamp has been off for about 3 1/2 wks. now, and wouldn't you know I got inspected 2 wks. ago

I basically have done everything you mentioned to get the lamp off. You did do the turn the key on, and press the door switch 6X fast routine, 2 times, right? I also found that moving the seat all the way back, all the way front, and to the driving position has sometimes miraculously shut the lamp off. Both sides, driver and pass. Good luck. It should have been a recall by Nissan.

I would take care of this ASAP because the lights flickering meaning there can be something wrong. In a crash the bags will not deploy due to the flashing lights. Try to get the codes pulled and try the scanner. good luck.

Yup. Does not work for me. I used the exact method as described in the FSM.

Ill try moving the seats back and forth a little more but the last time i did it nothing happened.

The last fix at the dealship they had informed me that only the drivers airbag in the steering wheel would work in the event of a crash. But im sure thats total bs. After both modules were replaced they said something on the passenger side was still messed up.

And I thought an OBD II scanner does not read SRS / Airbag codes & errors?

I can double check the service records...Do they normally put error codes on there?

Huh? Im confused on what your saying

I just dont think that the OBD II scanner will work for SRS or airbag systems.

I was replying to the carfax that they have the info on the cars history including the faulty airbags,as far as the scanner goes I am sure that they don't have anything to do to the Airbags.

Oh well my car has a clean title on carfax. The airbags have never been deployed under any circumstances. I checked this before buying the car At most on my VIN# it will just say the car was serviced at a dealership when my modules were being replaced. But i plan on keeping this car for a while. So im not terribly worried about re-sale at the moment. I just want it to be safe because the airbags in my other maxima saved my life when a guy ran a red light at 50mph right into my car.

You can asked the service writer what was done he will tell you what was done to it. I asked mine service advisor and he told me that I was just getting oil changes.

I had a similar problem on my 95 Max. I had a problem with my alternator, so the car ran out of juice when driving. All electrical systems went crazy, I got the problem fixed at the shop, but the airbag light was flashing.

I tried the door button reset, but that didn't work. It turns out there is more then one connection to the door switch. I had to pull the switch and clean it and the contacts with electrical cleaner from Radio Shack. After that, I was able to reset the airbag light with the door trick.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Sorry, for bumping this. I came across it in a search. I have some real world experience with the airbag flashing lights. My 99 Infiniti I30t had flashing airbag lights due to both front seats being replaced with Maxima seats that didn't have the airbags in the seats, my original Infiniti seats did. So, I checked around for a fix, and was told by the dealer that my airbags wouldn't deploy in an accident because of the flashing airbag light. Unfortunately, I tested this theory out in a bad accident. Both of my airbags did deploy driver and passenger, (my wife was with me at the time.) My wife and I survived, but the I30t did not, it gave it's life in saving ours. I don't know if this will be the case in all accidents that have the flashing light, but in my unique experience it was.
