Car will not start....no spark

i put a new engine on my car(98 gxe), and drove the car back to my place (about 50 miles from my buddys place)... had lil bit of problems so i did a full tune up and everything... then it wont start...
my mechanic has had my car for 3 weeks now, has gone thru every wire/sensor there is in the car... we thought it was a ground problem and even replaced the ecu..the problem is its getting spark real slow and we new we had problems with the crank position sensor(pos), so today he called me and said its got something wrong where the motor and tranny mate...cuz the crank position sensor is getting an erratic reading cuz of that and wont let the ecu to send thespark signal...i dont know whats going on? i told him to wait till monday before he goes tearing **** apart...
any help will be appreciated...
i would hate to part it out... but looks like that will be my only option cuz i am sure my mechanics bill is gonna be half a million dollars...

Ground the starter to the frame directly.

You should be able to pull the CPS out and look inside the hole with a flash light and a mirror. The ring gear should be right there, and you should be able to see how they are matching up. Also, make sure that you/he didn't put the little metal tab that holds the front O2 sensor wire under the CPS. It will put the CPS too far away, and although it will run, it will stumble real bad and have a very hard time starting.
