replacing thermostat

I'm in the middle of replacing my thermostat. I've drained the coolant, removed the bolts and such. I know you can use a sealant gasket and I'm pretty sure that's what is sealing everything up. I bought my thermostat and a gasket from Nissan.

I put my hand on the thermostat and give a good tug and this thing doesn't budge, it's like it's welded or basically super glued on. I did a quick search and it doesn't seem anybody has this issue just straight forward installation.

I've tried wedging a pipe and knocking it with a hammer, some vice grips. How in the hell do I get this thing to break free? Do I need to take steroids? Any tips would be appreciated.

when i did my wifes i had the same problem. that bolt tucked under the timing chain cover got me hung up. thats the only thing i can think of unless you got a bunch of corrosion built up under there.

it was the 3rd bolt. I removed the timing chain cover bolt not even realizing it. Just changed it took 5 minutes. live and learn.

Sometimes they get seized up on there (just like the two front access covers on the timing cover, those are a PITA too)...get a pry bar, no reason to worry about damaging the old thermostat housing.

That is, of course, since you have all 3 bolts out.

How's the Max doing, anyway? I remember seeing that thing a year ago or so on one of my many trips down to Oak Ridge...

Wow! One step closer to having that thing back on the road. I didn't know you planned to repaint either. Your max will look pretty sweet soon (sittin' next to mine, that is.)

c/f hood will at least make it match your bumper for now . JK. Tell me when you get it up and running and we can hit the dragon!

I had the same problem today. I got all three bolts out and could not remove the thermostat. I put everything back together and I must have unjammed the thermostat because it worked fine afterwards.
