Strut bearings and mounts
Strut bearings and mounts
Against my better judgement I am going to put Illumina adjustables on my 95 SE that has 160,000 miles. Are strut mounts and bearing the same thing? should I replace all 4 mounts and bearings, and will it add to the labor cost, or are these parts off already with a strut replacement?
Do aftermarket shocks like Ilumina's need mounts? I feel pretty dumb about this whole mount and bearing issue.

you need new mounts some come with the bering only the front has berings anyway and they are cheap so you mine as well do it while your there. why is against your better judgement its not like your dropping it or anything? or are you?

I would replace the strut mount and bearing if you are installing new struts. The OEM strut mount and bearing are two separate parts. There shouldn't be any more labor replacing them since they will be off when replacing the struts.
Not dropping it at all, but this is a vehicle with 156,000 miles on it and I am going to drop $600.00 on shocks, bearing, mounts and labor. Runs great burns zero oil, transmission still shifts sharply, (change the ATF every 30,000 miles or so and ran one Auto -RX treatment on the tranny), so I guess it is not a bad idea to change out the shocks again. But...... it has 156,000 miles on it.
It's not necessary to replace unless they're damaged (bearing), though I would invest in strut mounts (OEM) and upper coil spring isolators and lower coil spring isolators! Make sure you lube your bearing (plastic) with white lithium grease and you'll be good 2 go!
