I always that these spark plugs work best with chrysler engines and i have stayed away from using them because Nissan engines works better with NGK's.

CHampion SPark Plugs, work great!

Greetings from Cleveland...Home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame !
I just bought Champion Platinums $1.99 each. I have not installed them. The auto parts guy said for a GXE with no mods they will work fine. We will see. I will update this post in a few days.

Don't put American plugs in a Japanese engine.
Don't put American plugs in a German engine.

Got it?

Great!

lol...

If you have a Japanese engine, stick with Japanese plugs. If you have an American engine, stick with American plugs. German - german plugs too. The engines are designed for the timing/firing characteristics of the plugs that the specific country make. So if you mix/match engines and plug origins, your engine might not run correctly. So best to stick with Japanese plugs only on Japanese cars.

LMAO

So you are saying that a car company spends hundred of millions of dollars on R&D to develop an engine that works best with a couple dollar plug? I think you got that backwards....

Your John Deere doesn't have a Briggs and Stratton engine in it.

In that case don't put German plugs in a German engine since it was spec'ed for Japanese plugs

No.

I'm saying that *in general* Japanese companies specify Japanese plugs, which have different firing characteristics (timing delays, spark ramp, etc) than other plugs. So the engineer doing the ECU coding programs the ignition timing to work with the specified plug. About 5 minutes divided by his hourly rate.

If you use something else (different firing characterisitcs) the engine *might* not run properly.

It is the Commercial OHV 4 Cycle engine they put in the top of the line mowers. Starts on 1st pull every time, impressive engine. I run AMSOIL 0W-40 Synthetic in it.

Re: CHampion SPark Plugs, work great!

I put in the Champion Platinums last week. The car is running much better which is expected as the OEM plugs had 50k on them. As someone alluded to in a post...wait and see what happens. That is the key question, will I have to replace them in 10-20k miles ? Now I did the work myself so I only have my 2 hours time and $12 invested. There is a local repair shop which is very well run and regarded. It is owned two ex service managers for Honda and Toyota. They use Champion Platinums. I will have to check back in a year.

Interestingly enough a certain repair facility performed this test on the champion spark plugs yet, here is what he said:

Next, we took a 4 cylinder (22R) Toyota truck and installed four different sets of new spark plugs and ran the same test for each set of plugs. All were gapped exactly alike. The results are below:

Type of spark plug KV /electricity|Burn time in milli-seconds
------------------------------------------ |-------------------------
Champion Spark Plugs 1.38 | 1.9
AC Spark Plugs 1.72 | 1.7
Autolite Spark Plugs 1.90 | 1.7
NGK Spark Plugs 1.75 | 1.9

Again the Champions needed less electricity to create and maintain the burn and then they held the spark or flame as long as the NGK and longer than the other two.

I thought this was noteworthy do to the fact that the NGK were the original plugs for this make and model of the vehicle and it seems the champions outperformed the oem without compromise to engine performance.

Additionally when you look at subarus their OEM spark plugs are champion plugs which come from the factory and they seem to perform well for the vehicle

Champion Spark Plugs update.

While I think that test is interesting. Many of the proponents of NGKs believe that reliability is the key issue. So if you tested both sets of plugs after 30,000 miles, how would they compare.

So far my car is running well. We have about 3,000 miles on the plugs.

For about 35 minutes. Till you realize that you need new plugs again. And for gosh sakes do not replace them with Bosch+4's.
