gas smell at start up....
ya i know, a million times ive seen this thread posted and never thought id have to ask. yes, i checked the stickies, did'nt see a working link ( ahem, mr moderator ) so i had a fuel filter done like 3-4 weeks ago and i thought id been smelling gas ever since. well the last 2 days it got really cold and the smell intensified 5 times as much, i know the o-rings will shrink around the injectors when it gets really cold and sometimes cause a leak. my question is, does the gas smell go away when its an injector leak and not come back or is that a leaky fuel line stinking because the fuel is being pushed thru and there's a loose or cracked line??? it really stinks right where that fuel filter is, and i noticed that you cant smell the fuel until i start her, only from the outside. thanks in advance... also, the car runs fine with no hesitation at all.

first thing in the morning (It's gotta be cold 32 deg. or below), open the hood and start the engine, look at the fuel rails especially on the drivers side, see if its leaking. If you can not tighten the clamp a little to stop the leak, remove the intake manifold and change all the hoses...

most of the time the gas smell is coming from the rubber hose that connects the front and back fuel rails. When looking under the hood from the front of the car it is to the left (front) of the engine. There are two clamps on there that may spray a little fuel upon first startup when COLD outside. If you can't tighten it then replace the rubber hose. This has happened on 2 of the 3 Maximas that I have owned.

Let them check the car when it's cold so they can find the same problem you describe ....That means leaving the car at the dealership overnight OUTSIDE in the freezing cold, hopefull they will fix only what needs to be fixed...If they have to remove the intake to get at the leak that's gonna cost a few$$.....
