Intake comparison

Somone needs to do an intake comparison for the Maxima, kind of like the header comparison. It needs to show the the differences of each intake and if the are most suited for low- Mid- or high- end. I would really like someone to do this because I really want to buy a new intake. I want top end power without the risk of hydrolock. So cold air but i have considered short ram will a run cool vent in the hood can someone more knowlegable then me help me out?

Need to buy a cold air off of ebay. The one that goes through the fender. Put a k&n filter on it and call it a day. Stock is said to be best, but if you want an intake go with one like that. All other is a complete waste of time. If you would have searched, you would have found TONS of info on intakes.

All intakes are the same. It isn't the same as headers where it's different sizes. Buy a eBay intake system and a better air filter and you have yourself a kit. It's barely going to do anything besides give you a growl. Thats about it. Save yourself the money for a y pipe or gas.

if you have a 99 you should get headers but any other years all you need is a y-pipe

From a pure performance standpoint on a non-force-fed 3.0L, stock is best

Although the PR CAI is debatable, though.

In any case, here's your comparison:

Performance:
  • Stock: Awesome
  • A/M: Fail.

Sound:
  • Stock: Quiet.
  • A/M: Loud.

I'm still waiting to see the dyno differences between the intake setup I have proposed and stock, though

I did search, but keep reading that stock was best. Guess it is true , why isn't there a better way? I just don't see why! i have money for header's and i think i'm gong with cattman but i want a good sound. I was thinking making something out of the factory airbox, a short ram intake and a hood louver?http://www.hoodlouvers.com/

Uhh... okay?

Anyways, why are you complaining? You will have more power in hp and tq stock than they will ever have without spending serious coins.

I'm surprised kzoosho did'nt pop in yet and say go with nitrous

When I first bought my car I put on a Stillen intake, and dyno'd. Gained 2 HP and 3TQ on a cold motor. Other wise all it did was make a big sucking noise.

There is no risk. According to all the testing done a PR style CAI has less power up top. You'd want a short ram for top end.

I think I have the best over all setup. All stock with a Sentra bottom box and a K&N panel. The Sentra bottom has the inlet on the fender side. All I need is a pipe to extend into the fender.

I have had Stillen, PRCAI, short ram, stock, OSCAI, and all the combos in between. None have made a bit of difference at the track.

Pick what you want for looks and sound, just stay away from Injen.

i bought an ebay intake (fwi) and shortened it about 4". i found that stock as they come are too long and the get up was slow. works better now but i think i'll modify it by putting in a stock box without the filter and see how that works.
