Torsion springs that hold up the trunk?

i think thats what it is called.. but anyway about those 2 bars under the trunk that hold it up, has anyone ever taken those off and just put gas shocks to hold the trunk up? and if so how well did it work out? Because i am building a Sub Box for a 15", and it is about 38" Long, 32-1/2" wide and 16-1/2" tall and it takes up the whole dern trunk space, and it eliminates the back seats and the older floor board i made for it, and once again, it gained my spare tire a useless item once more, but anyway....... i am certain that those bars will peel the bark off that MDF.. so i need to take them off.. but unsure if gas shocks will be able to support the weight of the trunk. anyways. let me know. thanks.

It's been done, but I can't seem to find it. The trunk panel really doesn't weigh as much as you think it does, especially without a spoiler.

And motorize it. Electric open and close would be nice.

If everybody did good searches it wouldn't be much fun around here. Can't imagine there is much new material that has not been covered a couple times in the last 10 years!
