The door? There's absolutely no reason you'd remove the door itself. Not like it'd help at all, anyway.

Search was pretty clear for me
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ew-mirror.html
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...de-mirror.html

And so on.

hmm well im about half way done getting the door off and came back in here to see if anyone said anything else. i guess i'll just take off the door panel and get the whole mirror off that way. I'd be a little nervous taking the actual mirror off

Nope - only pry out the black triangular plastic inside

I had done this ages back.

If I recall correctly, all you need to do is pry out the triangular black plastic, and you can access the nuts that secure the mirror to the door.

And if it is just to get the painted part out -

Then, just pry out the mirror (the glass with it's plastic backing) using screwdriver like a crowbar, it snaps fits into a ball joint - you can snap it back in once done. It takes some force, and there will be a snapping sound as each snap is released, but trust me, if you do it correctly, nothing should break.

Put a cushion underneath to catch the mirror incase it falls out (I have broken a mirror this way once).

Once the mirror is out, you can access the screw that holds the painted part to the mirror sub-asssembly.
