Wierd noise from transmission..not starting

pretty annoying.

'96 aod trans

car was not starting b/c i was having starter issues for awhile. the starter would struggle to turn the crank and give a weird squealing noise. it was doing that for a lil bit. planetary gears in the starter needed to be greased. so i got that done. i figured it would fire right up now.......wrong.(starter wires are connected correctly)

now im getting a buzzing noise from the transmission case. the weird thing is, it changes pitch when i open and close the throtlebody. the buzzing is constant when the key in the "Accessory" position and ceases when it is not.

could this be symptoms of a blocked filter in the tranny?

AOD? I assume you mean it's an automatic?

No, the buzzing wouldn't be caused by a blocked screen (it's not a filter). In fact I don't even believe the trans gets power when in ACC.

You didn't happen to check codes recently, have you? Make sure the screw isn't still in the diagnostic mode.

So does it not crank, not try to start, what? You didn't mention anything about a starting issue now.

Did you replace the starter solinoide too, or just regrease it? Sounds like it could be either a P/N switch issue, or starter solinoide possibly.

Just my .02

Aod. (Automatic w/ Overdrive) yessir...

i havent checked codes recently. i also doubted that a blocked filter would cause this noise.

the starter solenoid doesnt even engage to kick out the gear. all i get is this buzzing noise. before the solenoid would engage but there would be a struggle to crank. i greased the starter and put it back in, and now i have this buzzing sound coming from the transmission.

the p/n switch does sound like the likely culprit. i did have to move around a harness or two to access the starter. maybe i caused the p/n wire to short out in some fashion. it would explain why the pitch of the buzzing changes when i open and close the throttle body......
ill take a look into it.

Sounds like the starter solinoide to me .... from what you have described. They are cheap and easy to replace. You don't even have to pull the starter (although it does make it easier). IIRC, Autozone charged me ~$15 or so for the solinoide.

G'luck ... keep us posted

weird buzzing from the tranny stops when i pull out the fuse for the ign. circuit. now i know its def. ign related.

its time to take a look at the fsm and go over the whole ign. circuit with a fine tooth comb..

Well that kills switched power of any kind, so you're basically no further in diagnostics.

If you want to go the fuse route, start pulling fuses that actually get you somewhere, starting in the inside fuse box.
