Pro Line oil filter from Pep Boys???
I just got the free oil and filter after rebate deal. The Pro Line filter (made by Purolator) is shorter than the Purolator, Wix and others. Would it be a problem to run it for 3k?
I bought this oil and filter to do an Auto-Rx treatment. That is why I have this question here. Auto-Rx is going to clean a lot of crap out of the engine and I am not sure if this shorter filter is good enough.

no need for oem, just make sure you get the right part if it looks different. Chances are that the oil filter is the wrong one cause i used to work at pepboys and didn't really notice a size difference in the proline versus the purolators. -= )
P.S. If its motorcycle filters, then yes..oem ftw..

it is the one from the catalog. I was surprised when I saw it was shorter and went straight to the book. the number is the same as the purolators just the letters in front are different. its PPL14610. both of the putolator oil filters are with the same number.
I almost got another deal couple of weeks ago and the filter was a Pennzoil and it was short too.
I compared it to the Purolator Premium and other than the size everything inside and out was the same. the same exact design of the filtering element and the valve on the bottom.

I got in on the deal too -- the filter is the right one, they just make it smaller to cut costs (I think STP from AutoZone and some others also do this)
It should be fine for normal driving, but avoid it for AutoRX or rough driving (use standard sized filters for that). If your engine is in fairly good shape without much sludge buildup then it should be fine, but if you have doubts then just buy a regular filter and use the Proline after the AutoRX treatment (regular sized filters are only $4-$6)
I just installed the Proline filter in my sister's 98 Altima on Sunday and its fine for her since she doesnt drive rough or drive that many miles (60-120 miles/wk). I'll keep the 2nd filter for her next oil change since I rather use a regular sized filter on my Maxima (I drive 250-350 miles/wk and a little rough from time to time so I prefer to use a better, regular sized filter)
AutoRX is overpriced so I never bothered buying it -- I usually just dump some SeaFoam into the engine a day or two before doing the oil change

^^^ thanks! I was kinda thinking the same thing. I do drive hard. That's the whole purpose of having a VQ under the hood
I also got Pure One filters and I will use them instead for the AutoRx
