Loose wheel lug

Seems that when I had mechanic change the lower control arm on the driver side front side, he must have cross-threaded one of the 5 wheel threads so that the wheel lug does not tighten securely.

Question is this a situation that deserves no attention, or should I need to go to a scrapyard and change the whole wheel splindle if that is was it is?

You can buy studs individually at autozone for like $2

no searching ?

Just change the stud if you're worried.

Thanks for the link.

So just bang the bad stud out? why put the wheel lug on first and then bang?

Just hammer it out, no need to put a lugnut on it. Their advice was most likely to avoid mushrooming the head of the wheel stud (at which point it wouldn't fit through the hole in the hub) but if it takes you that many hits to get it out, you'll likely need to press it out anyway.

Same reason you don't beat on the end of an axle, I've seen quite a few mushroom out that way and have to be ground down to fit back through the hub.

OK, the second lug won't tighten, so now I have no choice but to replace both studs.

I just changed my pads today and noticed that one can pound them thru but not enough clearance at the other end to pop it through. Just looks that way.

So just bash it out?

*Bump*

To remove the studs, there doesn't appear to be the clearance of the head.
Do I need to remove the outer wheel bearing and/or hub?

That's what happens when morons that don't know how to properly use air guns. Get a new stud and lug.

There should be a slot on the back where the old stud can clear and come out. Keep spinning the hub until you find it. You know how to install the new one right?

That's right, spin the wheels to a clearance spot. Took it to a garage and was informed the wheel lugs were damaged not the studs. They wanted $11 each, I said no, had the 99 cents ones at home.

Anyways saw how they installed lugs, no hand screwing, just jamming the lugs on.

You have to take off the caliper, torque member and then the rotor to get the studs out.

you can put a piece of wood and hammer the stud out! then put the new one on,put a lug nut on and tighten it until the stud is all the way in....
