you can buy a set of used tweeters in the classifieds section and just swap them out

I would recommend going all aftermarket and buy components for the front, aftermarket CD player, 4-channel amp, and a set a rear speakers.

I keep reading the stock Bose is a PITA when it comes to keeping the Headunit running.

If you want to keep the Bose.....try going to a junkyard...should be able to find cheap replacements.

I recommend checking this site: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/ I got a set of Apline components for the front and a set of two-ways for the rear deck for just over a couple hundred. The shipping was fast and the speakers were well protected. Haven't switched since.

Oh yeah, if you go the aftermarket route, you should be able to used your stock tweet locations with minimal mod to the door panel.

I'd recommend doing it all at the same time. If I remember correctly, Bose systems had an amplifier for each speaker (at least this was the case in my 90 Buick Rivera). You're better off going all aftermarket right away. If you are not planning on going with an extra amplifier, then just buy a pair of components, a set of rear deck speakers and a HU.

I will say you are going to get better sound with a separate 4-channel amp. I recommend running separate wires because the stock wiring is not the thickest gauge and will pick up noise from the engine bay (at least this was my experience with my other cars. I have installed about 10 systems and if you need some advise, please hit me up for info.

+1 for the above comments... use this as an excuse to replace your factory bose to HU, components in front, 6.5's in rear, and a 4 channel amp. Search craigslist for used set-ups....
