Unplug the alternator and see if it stops turning on at all. If so, ground pin 2 (W/R wire), and see if the bulb stays lit.

If so, it's an alternator problem.

First, the only alternator I'd put in is a Bosch (and I did). Yeah expensive. Not a fan of those "Chains".

Second, after 16 to 20 years old, I'd just replace this with the alternator or those with undiagnosed problems if the alternator is still good: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NISSAN-MAXIM...6cac3e&vxp=mtr

I hope this helps!

I have a 1999 model Nissan altima. I replaced the alternator now none of the controls on my doorare working, the alarmwill not activate and once I turn on head lights the battery drains dead after about 5 minutes. Replaced the alternator twice with the same problem each time.

The Maxima forum is organized by generations.

This is the 4th generation section.
Our cars differ from yours.

You need to post in the 6th generation section.
members there will be more familiar with your problems, and how to fix them.
