help replacing serpentine belt.

so i yesterday i set out to replace this damn belt, i proceed to loosen the nut on the pulley, then adjust tensioner bolt up above, manage to wrestle the old belt off but i cannot for the life of me put this new belt on, or the old one either. now i've read of the adjustment bolt actually breaking if you loosen it too far, my question is how far can it actually be turned? will i know if i'm about to break it?

i need some tips! thx

Try wiggling/pushing the idler pulley up while trying to slip the belt over it.

I don't think it will break off. The pulley should loosen up so much that you can pull it up with your fingers, and it fact it won't stay up unless you tighten the adjuster nut a little.

If nothing else works, put a socket on the crank pulley and turn it clockwise to walk the new belt on. But this shouldn't be necessary.

Well this is how I was able to replaced my, sence the person I purchase my car from, had already damage the tension pulley. placed the the belt over the crank shaft pulley or harmonic balance and the idle pulley, now here is the tricky part, placed an 3/8 socket on the the harmanic balance nut and gently turn, as you turn use a flat head srew drive and guide the belt over the AC compressor . good luck

This happened to me once. I had to losen the AC compressor so I could get the belt on then I was able to put it on. Don't recommend leaving the bad tensioner pully as it will start to squeel, especialy when you start the car. Idler pullu is around $26.
