Brake Light Problem!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a 98 SE, the right inner brake light does not work, only when I hit my brakes @ night when my headlights r on, all of the other lights work except for this one. Its funny though, because the brake light comes on when I hit the brakes during the day time when my headlights r off. I know its not the bulb because I changed and swapped the bulb (1167LL) into the other brake lights and they work fine. I got a ticket for this last friday from a ***** COP, and I have to go to court for this B.S., and I need to get this fixed!!! PLEASE HELP, ANYBODY!!!!

I would trace wiring to the bulb. Use a mulimeter and check voltage at light harness. Then try to trace the wire back into the wiring harness.

Ok, I will use a multimeter and test out the 2 wires for that particular side. Thx.

You should measure about 12VDC at all the the red/green wires for the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal. If not you have a bad connection.

pull back the inner cover of the trunk, check bulb, check wiring, unplug, plug back in, most likely fixed, if not, call your local wireless provider. Lol jk, that might fix it, but if it dont, refer to first 2 posts after the opening one.

It's also possible to read 12v at those wire relative to ground but your light won't light up because of a bad ground restricting the current flow.

I would make sure you have a good ground connection from the base of the bulb socket to where ever it grounds to.

Yeah guys, I checked the current flow of electricity and its low. I believe its the part where you insert the bulb in, has gone bad. What do u call it again? Anyways I went to the stealership and they were charging me $48 for the part. It comes with the wire harness along with the female connector. Can someone please tell me the exact name of this part, so that I can either look for it on ebay or @ a junkyard? Im not paying
$48,THX.

easy solution to avoid ticket, remove both bulbs from you inner taillights, so only the outer section lights up, perfectly legal, and...

Ok guys I finally got the brake light working!!!! After going to 3 different junkyards I found the part I needed and everything works fine. The part is called "pig tail brake light harness", it is located on the back inner tailight of the trunk, it controls the function of the brake light and the reverse light bulb; you can only get it @ a junkyard or the stealership. I got it for $5 @ the junkyard off of a 97 maxima. No more issues now, thank God and thank you all for helping me out.

Bump for Google Search and the forum. I am having this exact problem with my left side inner and the key was testing the brake light with the headlights off. It works but is not as bright as the rest. Headlights on the inner does not work. I am going to assume it is the harness as well and source one from a junk yard.

I deal with corroded contacts a different way I wraps a small piece of sandpaper around the eraser end of a pencil, then use that to lightly sand the corrosion off.

Some electrical contact cleaner from the parts store helps too. I. have used brake cleaner as well.

My method works, it fixes most issues right away. I save lots of time and some money.

dim bulbs usually mean corroded grounding wires.

Bump. Last year I had to do this for my right side inner tail light and now my right outer is doing this. I only pulled this thread to see which one it was I originally changed. Looking for an outer pigtail now.
