SO IT WASN'T A HEADGASKET!!!

alright my recent problem of the car overheating and leaking in no time wasnt a headgasket!
i just went to the mechanic and he took a quick look and in no time he said its a waterpump, and he said that when you change a waterpump you usually change the thermostat as well...
so i asked how much he said 550-600 lol
i got a paint job thats better than anything else out there for 190 bucks.. almost all the car except the doors and trunk!

anyways the parts online OEM are around 60 bucks. should i take it to another mechanic to fix it or just do it myself?
how long does it take and is it worth it or not?!

thanks

Anyway, a quick look at the how-to section would answer your question. Also, if you look through your FSM you'd know how easy it is to change your thermostat. The water pump is in the FSM too.

Have a good day.

PS. You'll have to change your oil and get new coolant. It's up to you whether or not you want to do the thermostat. Your mechanic might have just been saying you need to do it.

PPS. That being said, it might be that your thermostat is stuck closed and is causing your engine to overheat. I'd do both, if it were my car.

first, what was the necessity in creating another thread for the same issue? second, didn't i say it could be done at home? i believe so.

check the how-to's, it's all in there. that's why they're there.

I hope that I am not the only one who finds this strange. I never heard of a water pump stopped working to cause your car to overheat. I know the thermostat can if it stuck closed. Was your water pump leaking? If not, I would start with the thermostat first which is alot cheaper than the $550 - $600 this repair man is asking you to shell out.

That's because the OP created this thread to tell everyone his issue, which was already suggested in the old thread.

well you can tell if its your thermostat very easily. if when it overheats the top radiator hose is cold. your thermo is broken and replace it. easy.
change that oil pump while your in there. and your timing chain tensioner. both are cheap enough to do it while you have to cover off.
