Overfilled Engine Oil ?!?!

I just changed my oil to Castrol GTX, but because i burn a little bit of oil so i told the guy to fill in a bit more than the 4.25 quarts.

After it was completely drained he put about 4.75 quarts...

Now the engine is sounding really weird, when ever at idle at any gear except N, the car like bogs? it drops like a 100 RPMs then goes back up, drops and goes back up, i kinda feel like the car is gonna die but it doesnt ...

When i lift the hood it sounds like there is knocking or something, but its not knocking.. idk..

Is this common because the new oil change or whats the problem? =/

It shouldn't make any difference because I use Castrol GTX high Mileage and the guy puts in the same amount as you stated and I never had problems. Your bogging is not oil changr related so you can rule that out.

Adding 1/4 of a quart of motor oil over would have not made your engine run any different. You must check other components, also if your that worried about the extra oil, just loosen the drain plug underneath and let a little run out.

Is your cel on?? (check engine light)

dude a 1/4 quart of extra oil will not cause what you are describing. there is an underlying issue here♦

Whenever I do an oil change I usually use an entire jug with is 5 quarts (More or less) and nothing has ever happened. It think as long as you are not 2 or 3 quarts over the recommended amount you should be fine.

sounds to me like you need your spark plugs torqued to spec

Sounds to me that you should do what your check engine light tells you to do and change the O2 sensor and EGR Valve. More than likely, it is cloggged up with carbon which is in turn giving you pinging.

EGR= possible pinging.... try and get it cleaned or just delete it....much easier if your in there.

02 sensor= can make you run rich or lean depending on the fault, can also cause pinging if your running too lean.Airflow meter could be sending the wrong signals because of the 02 readouts.

too much oil will make a noticable vibration when accelerating 1/4 quart will not effect that i would look to other problems as far as the way it's running.

If it is sporatic try moving the wiring harness around the passenger strut while it's running and see if anything changes.

Hope that helps abit...

isent the water pump behind the timing belt cover? so..there should be no oil in the engine to do that.

i agree. deff clean or replace the egr valve and put in a new o2 sensor. as far as being doggy and pinging it also could be the ks (knock sensor) witch retards your timing 5 to 8 degrees causing doggyness and loss fuel milage

I do my own changes and I pour all 5 qts. into my car. Even if you did have a lot of extra oil it would just burn up.

Normally that extra .5 quarts added makes it so the oil light doesnt come on/flicker when u start the car. I always add that little bit extra

Do you have blue smoke coming out your tail pipe and ticking from the engine by any chance?

no not really.. i just changed the waterpump/tstat and even oil to find out that 3 fins from the pump fell in the oil 0.o so yea everything is good now except this annoying thing..

the problem happens mostly when im idling only on D or R the car just drops a 100 rpms or so then gets back up and the cycle continues, but it goes away easily. any method to end it permanently?

Hold on now. Three fins from the water pump broke off and fell into the cooling system? Is this the OEM pump you are changing for the first time? Wow thats crazy so that means those fins were trapped by the T-stat and got it out when you replaced or it slipped past and went into the radiator?

What about the check engine light? O2 sensors play a big part on how the engine runs. When my egr tube was clogged I got a code that just displayed the light and another egr code that would throw the car into limp mode.

ok so to answer all the questions..
yes i did change the new oil lol it had less than like 20 miles but its ok.
so yea the 3 fins did fall into either my cooling system or my oil system one of the 2 idk which one because while i wasnt looking the guy said oh those 3 fins just dropped ... and yup the pump itself had 3 broken ones 0.o now the new oem one works flawlessly. The car runs very very good now. knock on wood. Idling is VERY smooth and soo quiet unlike before. When i WOT it sounds loud and flawless unlike before no cracking sounds!

another note... my brakes used to suck *****... the brake system and powersteering fluid were a bit low so after he filled them up. now steering is a hell of a lot better, and my braking doesnt make squeeking noises at all unlike before (it was horrible, everyone would look at my car with that WTF look) , and steering is a lottt smoother too lol

Sorry for writing all this but my car is definitely a whole lot better! There are no sounds inside the car except one thing.. the front suspension. idk whats the problem, but on every bump or hole in the street its very rough and makes a popping sound when i turn

the old owner put on KYB AGX's and some yellow springs.. so does anyone have a solution to fixing this?
im really happy now tho

the popping sound could be a cv shaft going to sh*t. it also could be a bad ball joint. does it do it when your sitting still and turning the wheel or when you hit a bump?

lol both..
when im on a flat place and make a turn you can hear the poping sound, and when i hit the bump its another popping sounds , sometimes both sounds come at the same time lol
oh and im telling you . the car is EXTREMELY stiff on bumps, but handling at fast speeds is pretty damn good =/

I remember once I overfilled my engine with like 8 qts, what a doozey that was, I quickly learned that wasn't a good idea.
