Im going to check out a car on Saturday and i want to check the ECU. Now, i have read the instructions on vbmaxima.com and it sounds very simple but i wanna make sure i can get it to work cuz if i cant, i have to drive back (2hr). Its a 1996 Maxima GLE, are there any common problems with checking it that i should look out for. And also, once i have the code, im going to call the dealer with what bill99gxe says the problem is in his "trouble codes" post and ask for an estimate. If anyone has a better idea than calling the dealer, im open for suggestions. The only problem is that i have to do it on the spot and dont have access to a computer....anyways, thanks a lot!

did they tell you that the car is spitting codes? or do u just want to check if it has had a problem recently. because i belive that after a certain amount of starts, the codes are cleared.

 

The check engine light is on and im curious why...

Itll be Saturday around 12:30 and im going to bring with me printed instructions to get the code and then the 50pgs of code explanations (gotta love laser printers).
