does anyone know how to replace the "top" coolant line nipple that runs into the firewall behind the engine. my nipple is dry rotted and needs to be replaced while i have the engine out

from what you're saying yes. You can bypass the heater core if you don't mind having heat.

you disconnect the coolant lines from the heater core, and connect them together using a coupler.
