STRANGE stalling problem
STRANGE stalling problem
Whats up ORG
I've been suffering from random stalling lately , brought it to my mechanic twice, still not solved and driving me up the WALL.
Here's the list of symptoms.
#1. Stalls ONLY within the first 1-10 minutes of being started - after sitting for hours. (If I let it warm up 15 min. its fine everytime)
#2. Stalls (mostly) when first putting it into gear from Park (cold start) ...
While in Park or Neutral within this first 10 minutes after a cold start it idles fine , there is some initial wheezing of the engine but overall its ok.
#3. If it stalled when I first put it into gear , I will then restart and Rev the engine for a few seconds , then put it into gear and it has a better chance of running ok , although sometimes ...
If it goes into gear and is still stuttering , bogging and bucking BUT hasn't stalled yet, it will likely stall as soon as I come to my first complete STOP.
... After researching all these symptoms suggest the Mass Air Flow sensor ... HOWEVER ... after taking it to my mechanic 2 separate times he isnt fully convinced it is the MAF.
He said the first thing he did was clean the MAF and it didnt work.
Second - he cleaned the air filter and it didn't work. (not sure if he used a Nissan one)
Third - he cleaned out the transmission filter and refilled with fluid , shifts better but still stalls.
At this point he is convinced that it is just the tranny on its way out ... However i'm still thinking it could be a faulty MAF.
... I'm thinking ... i'll get a new MAF (dealership ?) and try it out , if nothing changes I can just return it ??
Dunno guys ... what do you think?

im not convinced its a tranny issue at all. I mean, how is it possible that a tranny causes an engine to stall??? Not likely.
Sound like to me u got more of an vaccum leak issue or air issue. Any codes?
CLean TB and check IACV. Check TPS too. Im sorry, but your mech doesnt know jack about the max.
there are indeed a lot of possibilities causing your engine to stall and the electronice on and in the trany that could cause this as well,, but again the tps is also a possibility,,a professional diag. is needed..feel free to visit us here...
Sounds like you're stalling from lack of air, which is a very common problem.
First clean the TB & IACV:

After reassembling those cleaned parts readjust the idle:
>Get the engine completely warmed up with no accessories turned on.
>Turn the engine off and disconnect both TPS connectors.
>Start the engine.
>Set idle speed to ~550 RPM by adjusting the default throttle body set screw.
>Turn off the engine and reconnect the TPS.
>Start the engine and make sure the idle speed is correct.
>If not, adjust the black crew on top of the IACV to set the correct idle speed.

I FORGOT to mention ...
There are times when I start it from a cold start ... let it sit for a minute and then put it in gear and hit the gas.
SOMETIMES when I hit the gas the RPMs will JUMP but the gear wont engage for a second or two like the tranny is slipping and them BOOM it'll hit and the car will buck and bog a bit ...
That is the main reason he thinks its a tranny issue ... Like the bands are bad or the tranny pump is bad. But he's not CONVINCED 100% just yet.
What do you guys think?

Just talked to a transmission guy ... he thinks it could be the drop selanoid or another selanoid as well ... we'll see what happens ... ****.
If I have to over haul this tranny what are some practical performance upgrades ??
