B&M STS knock off? Any good?
Hey guys,
You think this will be just like a B&M STS?
http://www.gspec.com/p-10948-short-shifter.aspx
I know it doesn't come with a **** but will it essentially be the same? I currently have an ebay brand sts which kinda sucks. Will this be any better? Any advice would be great.

I believe the B&M has its own ball holding thing/retainer which is why it makes it more precise compared to the Pacesetter which uses the stock ball retainter. I think thats the only difference. All in all I have a knock off the Pacesetter/OBX and while its better then stock I think it could be better.

Hmm good call, though this was on ebay and the guy lives 2 hours away from me. So if there are issues I can send it back without any us border hassle/ huge shipping charges. I'll still look for the real B&M. Thanks again.

Ive installed and driven a few B&M Nissans and swapped my Topspeed in a few cars. They are very notchy and stiff compared to my Pacesetter. As far as I can tell all the copies are the made by the same manufacturer. Ive installed both knockoff and genuine B&M. There is quite a difference in craftsmanship.
I am not a fan of this style of shifter for many reasons. Installing them is not simple as a regular STS. My first B&M install took a detour when I needed snap ring pliers to assemble it. WTF? When paying that much for a shifter you'd think it would be assembled. The bushings and washers are not very effective at centering or getting a smooth action. There are no bearings like many STS. Over tighten the bolt to the control rod and good luck shifting. Leave it too loose with out lock tite and it will fall out. Ask me how I know. The metal on metal pivot ball is prone to rattling, nothing is worse than hearing that every day. Plus the B&M **** is a joke. Its ugly and I could never seat the cap in tight. It would pop off within a few days. Oh and the bend is not back enough so you do get close to the shifter trim in 1 3 5.

I have a B&M and I love it. A bit notch but still feels great. I got one of those shifter bushings and it shifts great. Def make sure you grease the bushings and moving peices enough
