leaking gear oil

okay guys, so i was driving around last night and i started smelling something burning. when i came to a stop there was smoke coming from under the hood. so i pulled over and saw a little puddle growing under my car, i found where i believe the leak is coming from. it seems that its coming from in between the bellhousing and the engine block. what do you think, front seal of the trans? its still drove and shifted fine if that helps

I think it maybe your water pump going. Did you notice that you were overheating? I don't think gear oil can cause smoke. What was the color from the puddle?

You should double check your car , and pin point the oil leak. Cause it seems you might have more then one issue.

Oil would have to be spraying pretty bad for it to smoke (but its possible if it makes it onto your exhaust )

Now if gear oil is spraying that bad something must be wrong with your trans cause a simple bad seal shouldnt leak that bad.

But dont freak out just yet , get the car up on some jacks and then let us know what you find.

so here's the deal. i jacked it up and found the leak to be coming from the opening in the bottom of the bellhousing where it meets the engine block. so i took my trans out and found a crack in the case right next to where the passenger shaft goes and a bunch of dings. the idiot who changed my trans never took out the shrapnel from the old trans. JB welded the crack and it now drives fine. the gear oil made its way onto the exhaust and that was the cause of smoke. it still smoked for a few hours but then went away

he fixed the leak not sure why youd suggest this. Maybe because you have links to your repair shops in your sig lol.

Don't bother shipping it man if your having trouble, bring it to a local shop and save some time or do it yourself.

ALSO make sure you top it off with gl-4 before driving. get STRICTLY gl-4 nothing rated for gl-5. redline mt-90 75w90 or Amsoil gl-4 for the sake of your synchronizers
